Got a little polishing done and repurposed some old Axial bl rings. Polished vs Satin finish. I like either, but once you polish one its hard to not do them all. |

| Re: Eyeball Engineering It is. And now I'm sad that I don't have enough material for another set. I'm gonna make more, but this time with delrin. They might actually be affordable. |

They are 4oz without rings or hardware. Heavier than I'd like, but I'd need a lathe to take some material out of the middle. Oh, I could use another foot, maybe two for giggles... |

You could use a t slot cutter to remove some material.

Be careful with straight flute t-slot cutters... they tend to chatter a LOT but staggered tooth is better... that said I have done it on a CNC before once I got the Z set right it was no big deal |

They will still take about as long and Delrin is usually about double the price of aluminum, even 7075.

Got on ebay last night and ordered a foot of 2.5" delrin for just a little bit more than I paid for the t6061.

So I've been scratching my head about making a better fixture for making wheels. I got by ok the last time around, but it was a little sketchy and all the clamps/bolts holding it all down would sometimes hit the quill if I wasn't paying attention. I had all kind of ideas, then it occurred to me today that I still had a crummy little drill press vice. All it needed was a little work to tighten it up and some new jaws to hold round stuff. The victim: a Bessey drill press vice. I had no illusions that it would be flat or true, so I bolted it down to the table and got it straightened out. Once that was done I cut up some scrap aluminum and made a couple of jaws. With 2.5" delrin wheel blank in place. The only thing left to do before its trial run is to chop the handle down so that I can get full swing around the rotary table without it hitting the post. |

I was holding them with clamps. I cut a 2.5" (+/-) circle in a flat steel plate that was clamped down and centered so I wouldn't have to indicate every time I flipped or changed pieces. Cutting the bead groove was the worst...I had less than a 1/16 to hang on to.

Try picking up a 3-jaw chuck... those are handy for holding round stock its how I held my wheels when I was making them |

Why are you using the drill press vise instead of your new shars?
