I've been preoccupied with life-stuff, so I've been slacking a bit. Thanks to all who participated in Challenge #1.

No set plans for Challenge #2 yet, but it looks like there may be an actual prize awarded to the winner.

Details to come...

Ok boys and girls, time for round 2!

This one is special because it has attracted a sponsor. Oh yes, there will be a prize involved, but be prepared to strain your brain, this ain't no trinket makin' contest.

First up, the rules.

1. Hobby machinists only! No pro's, no retired guys with 30 years under their belts. This challenge is for the hacks, noobs, and weekend swarf rats.

2. The item MUST be made on a mill or lathe, manual or cnc. Depending on the complexity of the part, special consideration may be made one way or the other.

3. Your item MUST be functional and in its final form. No half-assery allowed.

4. You MUST pre-register.

5. NO exotic materials. I don't care if you've got a bin full of ultra rare polished G73 tridiptachlotanium, you can't use it. Only aluminum, steel, or acetal is allowed.

6. You CANNOT recreate an existing item. Everything must be an original design.

7. You CANNOT create a cad file and send it off to a machinist to be cut. This is DIY only.

8. You MUST submit clear photographs when they are called for.

Now, on to the goods.

Mayhem Engineering has graciously stepped up and offered to purchase this for the winner and send it to their home...a perfect addition to a still developing machinist tool set.

Mitutoyo Digimatic calipers with a retail value of $150!

Description of the item can be found here: Digimatic Calipers - Electronic Calipers | MSCDirect.com

Judging will be a bit different this time around, as entries will undergo scrutiny by a secretly selected panel of judges.

If you plan to enter you must post up in this thread no later than Friday March 1st. Some time this coming weekend I will post up the final rules about what you are to build, and the challenge will officially be underway. You will have ONE MONTH to complete your entries.

Many thanks to Mayhem for stepping up, and to the RCC members who participate!

Ok hers my entry. but I have a few questions. you say to make on a mill or lathe. what about for drill a hole can I use a drill press or any hand tools? can we use hand files to shape off corners? all I have is a small mill and a drill press.

also you say we have a whole month to make it, so please do Not make it something simple. I want this to be diffacult and challanging.

As long as the majority of it is done on a mill or lathe, that is fine.

I would be in if the projects were things that I want or need. projects like centered diff wraith axles, scale looking steering boxes, scale shocks, scale muffler. Making a 1.25" cube to look at seems like a waste of time and skill to me. I like the idea of the machinist challenge though keep up the good work Dude

If you think you want in, just say so. You are free to back out once the challenge is officially announced.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But as far as I know Tridiptachlotanium can not be machine cut. It can not be resized nor reshaped, It can only be recalibrated to emit a different subspace frequency through use of a quantum resonance oscillator. Then becomes a form of electrocatalyst. Such as used in the broadcast of a carrier wave.

Going to be re-loading software on my control PC tonight, after smoking a second power supply. Had enough of the old pile.
If I make chips tonight, count me in...
