Umm, be careful about that bug! It’s very contagious!

No painting here either! Currently 0 degrees and feels like -23 degrees with the wind! Looks like by next weekend we could be in the 50’s!

I'm not masking up no matter how contagious it is. I forgot to say good use of Kydex, that receiver base looks very professional. I plan on using it
to make a bed cover and maybe a tailgate.

Thanks! I buy these Kydex in 12x12 sheets. It does come in handy and has many uses. The last time I used it for a VFD skid on my GSpeed V3 build.

I see you used the Incision driveshaft, I saw those at VP incision parts and thought maybe I could use them on a phoenix. Is that possible?

Yes, sure can. The Incision steel driveshafts come stock on the VS4-10 Origin, PRO & Ultra. They are nice and will take all the abuse you could give them.

Currently progress is on hold due to paint booth conditions. Weather outside is just not ideal for painting. So in the meantime I figured I'd add a little scale to the build.

I downloaded the Harley Designs LS3 Lower Engine Cover. Easy print and consist of just 3 pieces. I used some styrene cement to glue the pieces together and a 2.5mm screw to attach the pulley.

I sprayed it with some matte clear coat to dull down the raw PLA to make it look more like it was painted and take the shine off of it.

In order for the engine to fit the Fushion PRO, I had to cut off the rear portion of the cover just behind the mounting screw hole. It now attaches just to the alum motor plate and allows for the motor to hang down below it.

Also cut a good portion of the spur gear cover away so that it would fit around the engine. I could have just left the spur gear cover off, but I wanted to leave it on to keep the spur gear covered so that it doesn't get the chance to eat any wiring that may get near it.

In the next pics you can see how far below the motor is compared to the engine cover.

A few pics of it installed. It was hard to get a good look at it since it is hidden up in behind the servo mount. It can be seen and does look cool when the rig is tilted up. It should look pretty cool out on the rocks and be more visible when the front tires reach into the air over rocks.

It is a great idea and glad Harley took the time to design it!

We had some unseasonably warm weather here in Ohio yesterday so I decided to take a day off work and get some much needed painting done on the rig. I didn't really have a paint scheme in mind and I really struggled to think of something that would match and go with the blue on black theme this build started with with the Rock Pirate RC chassis and the VP Method WOF wheels with blue IFR rings.

After tossing around paint color ideas back and forth for most of the morning, I finally said F-it and grabbed some paint I had on the shelf and started painting. Before I figured out a color, I spent some time on the wife's Cricut software looking for some type of vinyl design I could try out as a paint mask. I ended up deciding to go with a race truck theme (since the body is a '35 Hot Rod Truck) and found a number font that I thought may look appropriate for this type of body. Went with the number 71 to go along with my member name. And it also represent the year 1971. A lot of great things happened that year!

The paint I used was Tamiya PS-63 Bright Gun Metal faded into Tamiya PS-59 Dark Metallic Blue. As usual, all of the black (window trim, nose and bed) is painted on the outside with Tamiya PS-5 Black topped with Tamiya PS-55 Flat Clear. I also put a couple coats of Tamiya PS-31 Smoke on the back window to give it a slight tint look.

Anyways, here is a few "first look" pics. I still need get the interior and lights squared away and get it installed. Here lately I've tried to stay away of adding too many decals, but since this is a race truck themed build, I said what the hell, why not! I tried to only add decals of manufacturers of items that I used in the build.

The color theme on this flows so nicely. It looks like the bumpers are color-matched to the hood, even.

This came together AWESOME. Not only is the paint scheme tied together well, the body looks right and cut not too low with the combination of the Interceptor rails allowing the front shocks to have the lean and expose them just right. The 4.75 Super Swampers also bring out the aggressiveness of the hot rod body. A Hot Bogger lol...
