2nd generation kits are spot-on. Fit and finish is top-drawer... I still need to replace my stock servo horn, but now that it's all together it is soooo obvious that there is no more slop in the steering, yet it cycles with silky smoothness... If you have a Twin Hammers, this is a must-have mod for sure. HUGE improvement. Now that this is in place, it should be easy to fab up an upright shock mount assembly. Drill/tap 3 or 4 more holes and bolt it down right on top. Gotta hit the lhs today for a new horn, I really want to drive my VTH again now! I am highly confident it will not wander around anymore Thanks Derwood! Last edited by Big Mike; 08-09-2013 at 07:57 AM. |

Glad to see you got it on and going smoothlyAlways good to hear feedback from a happy customer. And just an FYI there might be a new shock tower in a few weeks that happens to just bolt right up to your steering kit Quote:

Grabbed me a Racer's Edge horn today and fitted it up real quick. A little trimming at the transmitter and my VTH was back in action - - oh yes, we definitely have some very improved steering. In addition to slop-free linkage it also now has a tighter turning radius. I'm very pleased with this modification. Installation is straight-forward and everything fits and clears where it should, and there is definitely a huge performance gain. from Big Mike... | ||

Got it installed last night, super easy...night and day improvement! Heading out to Goat Hill ORRC park today for some trail maintenance and testing, i'll post some results. Edit: This kit is most definitely Goat Hill approved!! Beat the snot out of it for 3 packs last weekend, just trying to break it...still rock solid! Got my Steering setup kit in the mail this Saturday, so I plan to install it tomorrow or Tuesday and see how she works. I'd do the upright shock mod, but honestly, I like the way the front end looks with the lay-down style shocks, even though they aren't as beneficial to the vehicle.

Does this improve the turning radius at all?

| Re: ***DERWOOD DESIGNS Double D Steering Kits*** Honestly I didn't think about that when originally designing the bell crank system but yes it does allow more throw in the steering. Its all gonna depend on your EPA settings and mounting position. The bell crank has 2 mounting hole for the drag link from the servo to mount to. The outer hole will give you a 1:1 ratio on the steering throw. The inner hole will give you more steering throw and quicker steering but uses more torque to do so(less leverage). Some of these newer cheaper high torque servos that are out there have high torque numbers but also a slow speed rating. This is were the inner mounting hole will help. Hope that answered your question and wasn't too confusing.

| Re: ***DERWOOD DESIGNS Double D Steering Kits*** Definitely. If you have locked your front differential this should help some (300K or 500K silicone is a better option unless you are dedicating your TH to crawling duty) Standard rules apply, set your EPA's properly before driving to prevent servo or mount damage. I found that I had to back off of the throw a little compared to the stock steering setup. Tighter turning radius out of less servo throw! Ya gotta love parts that genuinely improve performance... | Re: ***DERWOOD DESIGNS Double D Steering Kits*** All my kits will now come with stainless steel hardware and buttonhead screws. I was able to find an outfit to get them in bulk for basically the same price as the old hardware. It has a cleaner look and no worries about rusting. Some of the kits that got shipped out starting the beginning of this week got the new hardware. As far as the shock towers, everything is looking good and I should have them in my hands at the end of next week. If theres no hiccups i should have them ready to ship out that following week. I'll keep you all posted and thanks for the support Last edited by derwood21; 08-15-2013 at 01:12 AM. |
