Very nice, you're doing a great job. I'm a Ford guy and I love all the Ford trucks lol. I've owned almost every body style from 1955 up to the early 2000's body styles. I didn't have a 67 but I had a 76 and that's pretty close lol, but had to sell it cause the 7 mpg's the 390 got just didn't cut it. I will be following your build with anticipation of the next update. Keep up the great work.

Yeah, those old trucks werent much for fuel mileage, but that 67 did get 11 mpg average (unless I was towing something, then it fell to about 7!) 352 V8, 2 bbl carb, 4 speed manual. I had a 77 Lincoln Mark V with a 460 once - used to get teased that it would pass everything but a gas station - but in truth, it got close to 25 mpg - if I kept my foot out of that 4 bbl! LOL And where is the fun in that? | |

If your still looking to make your own leaf springs. A recoil spring from a lawnmower pull start works great. And for hangers tlt axel stays, and for shackles either bike chain master links or 2/3 a battery posts. Looks great love the old fords!

Awesome build! How/what are you using to shape all the wood? Everything is very symmetrical and I'm impressed with the amount of detail you are able to get with wood.

Very nice work for sure. The body looks great. Are you planning on using wood for the chassis too?

On to the updates! I got a package in the mail the other day - full of all kinds of goodies... a dozen each strips of bandsaw blade and metal banding, a whole bunch of bike chain links, two sizes of spacers/bushings, a set of stationary spring mounts, and 2 sets of tamiya leafs - one main spring set & one helper spring set. So, after getting homework more or less done, I started playing around with the stuff. I had picked up a Bell bicycle chain at the local walmart for $6 and had popped several links off - comparison between the Bell links and whatever these others are... after sorting thru things, I grabbed a bunch of the metal strips and headed to the garage. made a test bend on some of the metal banding using our mini torch set up (uses the small 1lb bottles of gas/oxy). That turned out pretty well, so started to try to bend the other end...figures - out of oxygen! <_< I am not quite comfortable using the big torch - too many guages! LOL Oh well - on the the drill press! used one of the Tamiya springs to mark hole spacing, and commenced to drilling holes. The metal banding went pretty well - the bandsaw blades however - just couldnt get thru them - even using a little cutting oil...OK, so metal banding it is. Madkow got home (poor thing had to work today) and after having some dinner, we headed out to the garage to fire up the big torch and bend some spring eyes. I think they turned out pretty well...the one on the far left is a Tamiya spring... also discovered that I needed to make some lift blocks to clear the steering link, and even then it is gonna be close...the lift blocks were made out of 1/8" aluminum plate. installed... and the moment I have been dying to get to - the axles attached to frame rails!!! YIPPEE! :Happybounce: Still have a whole lot of tweeking to do to get everything where it needs to be, and crossbraces made, and mounting plates for motor/trans and transfer case - but finally - some real progress!! |
