Default 1967 F-250 - Headquake inspired wood build

First posting over here (have a thread over at scale4x4 as well)...

I used to own a 1967 Ford F-250 - had the truck for about 13 years. Circumstances forced me to sell it, but after seeing Headquakes wood builds, and watching the 77 Ford build video of his a few times, I decided to attampt to recreate the truck I miss.

The real 1:1 truck I am attempting to replicate - it was only a 2 whl drive version, but had some serious Uumph in granny gear. It wont be an exact replica as the 1/10th version will be 4 whl drive.

and the beginnings of the build...did a mockup out of foam core to get an idea of the size - initially used my Redcat RS10 chassis with some smaller 2.2 wheels (meant for the Mini Revo) - but it has had some serious changes since initial mockup...

side panels in progress...

Hood blank, built up out of 1/4 plywood...

and starting to get a little shape...

Thanks. It really isnt all that hard if you have some good reference pics to work from.

Ok, so a few more pics...BTW - I actually started this build back in early January.

front panel in place, and a piece at the back of the cab area

The beginnings of the cab...

and after a bit of shaping...

Got a nice surprise from the boyfriend (I am female, btw) - a set of SCX-10 Axles, Trans & driveshafts! Yippee! the RS10 remains an RS10, hehe.

Still had the 2.2 wheels at that point tho...soon to be remedied however...

Ok, so a bit of work on the back of the cab, shaping the rear window area, along with the front of the bed...

And a grill & headlight buckets...

The buckets came from the front bumper guard of a Summit. The LHS had one sitting on the counter one day - I spotted the light buckets that were a part of it and thought they would make perfect headlight buckets for my truck.
Yes, It is going to have a full compliment of working lights.

Bed floor

you can see the holes for the LED lights ...

and from the back side...

Started work on the tailgate...

Up first - letters cut out...

Glued to a backer...

And installed on the tailgate...

The edges have been sanded down to look more like the stamped letters of the 1:1 since those pics were taken, i just havent gotten around to getting an updated pic.

For Valentines day I got another great gift - some RC4WD 1.55 stamped steel wagon wheels - just like the 1:1 had on it! and a set of Dirt Grabber tires to mount on them. (and no, I am NOT your average female! LOL)

And the most recent work - getting the front end sorted out. Headlight surrounds placed and shaped, headlight buckets sitting pretty close to where they need to be...think I might need to take them in just a little bit deeper...

I dunno - a little practice & a little more time spent and you could do quite well with wood. Your Chevy turned out pretty good for a 1st timer.

ROFLMAO - Oh yeah! and watch the gas gauge drop like a rock! At nearly $4 a gallon these days, I dont miss that aspect of the 1:1. Mine had the old 352 V-8, w/2 bbl carb - forerunner of the 360/390 - was the last year for that motor in the trucks - talk a bout a gas guzzler! but for haulin heavy loads - nothing could touch it!

was a "3/4 ton" truck that could easily haul more than double it's rated capacity (3/4 ton = 1500 lbs). We put a shade over 3300 lbs of roof shingles & tar paper in that truck when we built our garage, and drove it the 30 miles home with no problems - aside from being a teensy bit light in the steering.

also pulled a 1 ton dodge dually, w/a cargo box on it, out of the ditch.
Keep in mind this was a 2 whl drive truck - had to love that granny gear!

And, she took a couple of trophies at local car shows - bone stock aside from the wheels, mirrors and stereo. took 2nd one year, and first the following year for "All years - Trucks & Vans" Yeah, she was my baby, but she also worked, like any good truck should.

As for getting it done - I am a full time college student right now - pulling 16 credit hours (12 is considered full time) so my "free" time is pretty limited right now - priorities and all that .... Usually only get maybe one day a week to "play" - so this is kind of a long term project.

But - it WILL get done! Has to get done! I have been asked to help out with a boy scouts jamboree this fall - RC themed. I will be working the rock crawler area and I plan to have this truck there as a fully functioning display of what the hobby can be.

Nicely done, the hood came out great. Lot of different angles and shapes.
Will be watching.

Thanks for the props guys.

Sadly, I dont get a lot of time to work on this - college level homework really puts a damper on a lot of fun stuff! Updates will be kind of slow in coming.

On a related note - I had placed an order for some leaf springs recently - got an email the other day that my order has been back ordered for "a few weeks" - how ever long that is supposed to be. So I may be attempting to make my own...

Lookin' pretty good so far. Let me know if you and Madkow find any good spots to trail run in the area. (I'm out of CW, too.)

And I also love those Headquake videos. My favorite is the one with the A100 and Fargo. (both dodges, but still, great vid)

We had a slide-in camper for dad's '73 camper special 2wd/390/auto/dual tanks. Crossed the Macinac Bridge with an above cab view! That vacation took us up to North Bay, Ontario to see some family.
Tough truck, even survived a scuffle with a municipal snowplow.
I think the only thing that truck couldn't do was deliver double digit fuel economy!

When I was young, my dad build me three 18 wheelers in ~1:5 scale in the same manner. Over 30 years later, they are still amazing. Well worth the effort with the wood work.

I'm doubly impressed! Building a "woody" RC AND taking 16cr hrs! I've logged 72hrs at my practice this week so no RC work for me :(. Everything's on the back burner... I'm living vicariously through everyone's threads right now.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,
Doc

Thanks, Doc!

From the looks of the list in your signature, that has got to be one BIG stove to have all that on the back burner! LOL

Things have been a bit hectic here lately - no updates this week - too many other things needing attention (including the other half! )

Ok, finally found a little time to "play" for a change.

The other half surpised me again with a very nice center diff, so the motor/trans will be up front where it should be. Still need to round up springs & shackles (working on that) and will need to order another drive shaft - but did a little bit of mockup to see how things will lay...

and with the body set in place...

Also got started on a front bumper - this is going to get a lot of shaping yet...

Started the rear wheel wells too, and a few other minor little details today - like shaping the headlight housing area a bit more.

Not a lot of progress, but some is better than none!
