he and his cat are pretty cool, but I was referring to detail. yeah, he may get his done, and yes his builds are stout.. but I don't see him using metal to fab his work with such detail.

The K44 and yota axle are different gearing, I was planning on doing that for mine. It would work if the yota was a lower ratio so you could make the front pull. The K44 is closer in size to doing a one ton swap. I just tell myself mine is rolling on 60's lol.

Matt, I literally just got done reading through your entire bronco build. I LOVE what you ended up with and thanks for documenting the whole journey for us all to enjoy! Glad you like my build too ;) I had a bunch of questions I planned on asking you about your axle setup and wanted more details on the flip. I am still trying to figure out how to get the correct width for my build as well and figured I was going to have to cut down a set. I love the detailing you gave the yota's to d44ify them. I'll be running the Steel Landie 5 lugs and a set of MT MTZ's. I hope to be able to get them to stuff in the rear wells.

P.S. where the heck did you fit the battery?

PM sent!

Oh, and I found a smaller 2 cell for a smaller scale slash I believe and tucked it under the driver's seat floor pan. It was either that or I was going to run it between the frame under the bed but that was too tight. During long trail rides I stick a bigger 3 cell between the seats and call it good enough

Got the pm! Great info. I had been looking at the LESU all metal G5 Axle Set (K44 clone) on ebay for $139.99 but the center section still looks huge and the rear axle is not even close to looking 9" ish. Plus these are still way too wide and would need to be cut down as well.
Guess I need to learn solidworks and buy a 3d printer

Hey you can just learn solidworks and send the file to shape ways to have printed. Even in metal.

Great work man. Subscribed. Can't wait to see the more progress and the finished product. I built sliders and body mounts for my hardbody yesterday, nothing compared to what you've done and it was work. I appreciate the time you've put in. Keep up the great work.

Got a bit more Bits bitten off the to-do list over the weekend. Driver's side quarter panel... Check!

Forming block made for the super tricky multi-compound curvy, bendy, how-the-%$@&^%-do-i-make-these bed corners... Check!

First test bend with some scrap to see what I was up against. Not as horrible as I thought for the first try. I need to take some better measurements and get the stake pocket figured out as it is part of the bed corner and will require some figurin' to get just right. If it were a full cab, I may have just "accidentally" overlooked it but it's going to show with the half cab soooo... gotta get it right. Also need to make a press stamp for the tail light opening. I may need to press that in first before bending the corner. I think body filler will be my best friend on these ;)

The final ones will get hammered on the form a bit cleaner and then silver soldered together before bending in the mounting flanges but this gives you an idea of how it comes together.

Great progress! Yah, those corners are tricky for me and I'm using much softer aluminum. I ended up pre-stretching the metal right at the corner before forming over the mold. Keep it up!

Time to bust out some rocker panels. You can get aftermarket repro's that don't have the upturns at the end that meet the door posts but this is a high dollar build so i went for the factory OEM ones with the fancy bends and such

So of course that means more forming blanks to build.

The step actually curves upward but also narrows where it meets the inner door opening as well as having a second radius where it meets the hump on the door post. Basically another multi-compound bendy bit that needs to have crisp flanges on both sides without tearing the sheet metal.

Here it is soldered to the lower rocker panel. Not as clean as i'd hoped but I should be able to tap it into submission once I get it tacked into place.

Test Fit... Hmmmm. Still needs some hammer "love"
