| Scale EB Build
Hey Guys! Just have to start with what a great site this is. Yup, I've been lurking for a few weeks drooling over the gobs of cool rigs and crazy skills. LoneRanger and Metal Masher have inspired me to start one of my own. Up front, I HAVE ALMOST ZERO RC experience but i've been reading up on what others have done so i'll hold off on all the stupid noob questions for now! I have always loved the early bronco and have a fairly well built 1/1 scale '66 that i used to wheel with (life got in the way). I am also in the process of building an uncut 72 half cab plow truck that will be the inspiration for this 1/10 version. I'm hoping to build as much from scratch as possible (i'm also poor and cheap). So my plan was to start out with scaling some frame diagrams from the web and then bend up some 1/2" square tube. Let the fun begin. Next step... Cut it in half with the cutoff wheel, trace the frame on some scrap steel and cut them out to box in the frame. It's a Bronco so it's gotta have a full boxed frame, right? Clamp and weld! Now for the ladders and first stab at bending up the little bits and pieces. How did they ever bend those parts for the real one... Printed out templates to spray mount to the steel and trim/grind/sand/bend. I love working in this scale. How 'bout some spring shackles... yum. Next up will be some scale leaf springs. What is the recommended hardware size for mounting springs? I was thinking M3? thoughts/comments welcome. Don't worry, I have thick skin! |

I was going to try welding the tidbits on the frame but decided my bugger welds wouldn't help the overall appeal of the build even though the ford factory welds aren't much to write home about. Busted out the silver solder and gave it a go! I really like the way it works into the joints and holds really well. I tried a test piece and couldn't pull it off with a pair of pliers so I'll get to work with the real parts. Leaf springs from some old strapping left over from a pallet my metal roofing came on. Already has a nice rust patina on it as any bronco in the northeast would ;) Frame is also starting to rust from the silver solder flux... kinda like it! Next on the list is fabbing front Coil buckets and Front shock mounts. Any old school bronco owner ditched the stock towers and put on a set of F250 mounts. Thanks! I'm sure i've gotten in way over my pay grade on this one. 1976 Ford Bronco Tech Diagrams picture | SuperMotors.net I did a search on the net for Early Bronco Frame Dimensions. His site also has body dimensions as well. The tube is HILLMAN 1/2" WELD STL-TUBE picked up at ACE Hardware in the rod/tubing/flat stock bin. Looks to be about .05" thick (somewhere between 16 and 18 gauge). |

To make the templates, I placed the Tech diagram in Adobe Illustrator and scaled it to 1/10. From the different elevations I traced the shapes and combined them together to form the templates. The front leaf spring hanger is a PIA to bend.

Check out the mounts LoneRanger made for his. He shows what his template looks like as well (Read: I stole the idea from him). I went overboard with the circular bend on the end of the mount trying to keep as scale as possible. Adds a bit more rigidity (not that it needs it with as thick as they are). | |

| Re: Scale EB Build I'm sure you can fab one as good if not better than mine - I've lurked around on your build thread and have seen what you can do Where did you get those ultra scale drive shafts from. They are so perfect for the rig (even if they need shortening) |

Thanks, I just don't have the time or place to get that in depth with a frame right now. I got them from rc4wd, just wish they made more replacement parts for them.
