this is truly amazing....

you have a real talent for fine craftsmanship and details.

I built a poor-mans version of clampy a few years back, in 1:1.
it was nowhere as cool(mostly because of my state laws being so strict) I wasn't able to run it w/out a bed or such large tires... bla bla bla. But I can really relate to your interest in this truck.
good work! here's some 1:1 inspiration

sorry to jack your thread w/my pic... I just thought it was a good comparison, and shows just how real yours looks in scale form

Man, I will have to go back and redo my scale interior. Thank god the 1:1 rig I based my scaler off of doesn't have any doors or windows. Beautiful build.

Hey Guys, Thanks again.., I am SO glad i decided to take the gamble, and chop and graft the flares the way I did.., It looks SO much better in my opinion..!

No updates on Clampy as of right now, BUT - years ago I too had a 1:1 1986 Toyota Pick-up, except mine looked more like it came from the set of "Back to the Future"..... I wanted to get a vanity plate for it that said "McFly"..!! Never did though...and after building it up for the 3 years I owned it, I SOLD it.....

Last i heard the kid I sold it to wrapped it around a pole....:-(:-( DAMN, I miss that truck and wish I never got rid of it..!!!, Oh well, guess I'll have to find another one someday....

OK back on topic.., I've got a question of sorts... After thinking about the drastic changes this project has taken, the only thing that will still resemble the original "Hilux" cab is the grille.., granted there IS a picture of the real 1:1 Clampy with that same grill... ( below)

But more often than not, its shown with the stock Toyota grille that came on the truck....Hmm....SO should I stick with the Hilux grille, OR should I MAKE this grille work..?????

Surprisingly Its roughly the same size as the Hilux grille ( after I cut off the bumper that is..) I could "MAKE" it work...

What do you guys think..??????? I NEED opinions - Let me know which direction I should go - Thanks

Honestly, looking at your skills

I imagine you would be better off making one from scratch...

This project is SOOO good looking, and the truck currently has the hilux grille, I say stick to the hilux. You have already done a LOT of work to that grille as well, OR make a very sick grille from scratch. you can do it!!

I AM LOVING THIS BUILD!!

After the time it took you to ventilate that one, i hate to see you go another direction. From what I can tell so far though, time/money/hours of work don't matter much. It HAS to be RIGHT. I know you'll do the right thing....

I say stick to the Hilux grill bro. I have no doubt that you hold the POWER SUPREME to build another grill, but, there is a pic of the same grill on the 1:1 so that makes it ok .... not to mention it is the better looking grill IMO.

Either build one from scratch or use the hilux. It looks better and since you dont have the square fenders its the one that looks better and that belongs. I know the 1:1 is a later model (84-88 body) but with the fiberglass fenders that you resembled it makes it look like a 79-83. If none of that makes sense Im saying use the hilux grille

Stunning work Chris. You are truly putting together an amazing rig.
I have drawn some inspiration from looking at your pics, thanks.

Oh, and I prefer the hilux grill personally.

Any chance we would see Clampy at the Scale Nationals next year?

I say go with whatever grill is seen on the real Clampy more often, or, whichever one you think looks best!
