god, the little details blow me away on this build... glad you're not cutting ANY corners whatsoever, it's going to pay off in the end. any chance you're going to go wider with the axles? maybe use Axial stuff? it definitely needs the same low and wide nasty look as the 1:1 |

| Surprise..!!! Surprise Everyone..!! Yup, Clampy is 100% ready for these BAD BOYS..!! Can we say scale 1.9" Walker Evans REAL Beadlocks..!!! These rims are the one scale touch that Clampy needed to be in a whole other realm of realism..!! I had Wes over at "CadToChrome" custom make these for me, and they came out INSANE..!!!!! ( This was the first full set EVER produced from what I've been told..!!!) I can NOT WAIT to get these on Clampy....!!! Thank You again WES for the fantastic job on these..!!!! |

Thanks for the compliments guys..!! OK - after thinking more about how much changing over the hood made the truck look 100% better, there was still room for improvement in my opinion..! The real 1:1 has these SICK fiberglass fenders with huge flares that open the wheelwells up alot - Great for articulation, NOT great for trying to replicate in 10th scale..! The way the fender was before ( below) just wasn't cutting it for me after all the work thats already gone into this thing....time for some changes....( again..! ) After thinking about how to bend up some styrene flares ( somehow) and have them contour to the body like the 1:1 ( which wasn't exactly working out all that great with the test flare i made..) I sat scratching my head for a bit thinking how I was gonna do this, and make it look awesome..., then the lightbulb went off over my head, and the solution was staring at me the whole time..!!! Way back in the day I picked up this "Pajero" hardbody from a friend and stole the interior from it for another project.. Its since been sitting on a shelf covered in dust.. ( In fact I ALMOST threw it out on more than one occasion..!) After some quick measuring of the front flares, I decided they were exactly what I was looking for, so out came the cutoff wheel , and off they came... Here they are mocked up with some tape.. ( don't worry, they look ugly on Clampy here, but that all changes later..!!) OK - after some careful measuring on Clampys fenders - It was time to cut out the wheel wells...(gulp) NO turning back NOW..!!!! Heres the Pajero flare glued in place, and trimmed to fit I then filled in the back of the flare with some strips of plastic and CA for reinforcement, then I added some 2 part epoxy over that for added strength...I then added bondo around the outside to "graft" the flare into the fender, making it seamless After sanding, and a few coats of primer... Came out pretty good The next step was to tear the whole truck down to the framerails, clean, and prep everything - then I could FINALLY start spraying some Olive Drab Green paint.... Then I rescuffed the whole front end down checking the bodywork, and primed it again... NOW Its ready for some O.D. paint..!!! Heres a quick mockup of the frame and body together again.., I also lowered the ride height some, and YES the wheels will have wideners, making it look exactly like the real 1:1.. And Lastly, heres a few comparison shots of the new front fenders against my "stock" Mountaineer Hybrid body.. The new flares are wider, and much higher up on the fender for awesome articulation ( again, just like the real 1:1) Last edited by 51WillysJeep; 11-08-2008 at 08:18 PM. |

I love your build so far but man that low hanging lathe motor and gearbox really destroys the "real life" image. Your body work is flawless. I really love your out of box thinking. Few people rarely go to the length of detail you have.
