Today I finally finished my Imperial Capra (well, with the exception of the flat skid from InTheWoks (which is on the way). Find steps involved installing the Desert Lizard shocks, and putting the wheels (with JConcepts Landmines) back on.

Today, I officially gave up on the 3-position dig, removed the skid, removed the dig servo horn, recentered the servo, and set the dig up as 2-position (you happy now, Horizon Hobby?). I can see why they chose to market it as a 2-position, instead of a 3-position...the "middle" position is very inconsistent. But, truth-be-told, I'm not worried. When I built the second Capra, using an AX10 trans w/ VP Hurtz V2 dig, that will be set up as a 3-position, and I'm extremely confident it will operate workout problems.

The second thing I did today was weigh my goat.
Weights convert as such:
Total - 3112g, or 6.86lbs

Front half - 1771g, or 3.9lbs
Rear half - 1341g, or 2.956lbs

Left side - 1556g, or 2.43lbs
Right side - 1556g, or 2.43lbs

Front Right - 892.6g, or 1.968lbs
Front Left - 878.7g, or 1.937lbs
Rear Right - 677.3g, or 1.493lbs
Rear Left - 663.7g, or 2.463lbs

I'd guess that the 57% front, 43% rear is pretty decent.

I think it was your servo that wasn't centering properly. Mine goes into freewheeling every time without fail. If you were using the servo saver, that wasn't helping the situation either. A good servo, and no servo saver seems to work very well for me.

What would be a good servo setup to make the 3 position dig work? I’d love to have that option.

Just a good quality servo, and then ditch the servo saver and screw the post directly to the servo horn.

As for good servos, that's a can of worms. I used a Hitec HS-65MG and it performed flawlessly. But then I wanted waterproof and to be able to pump more voltage to my steering servo so I put in a Power HD TR4. Been out 3 times with that one and it's been working well too.

I've been considering this for the second Capra. Curious...did you mount the rear shocks to the stock mounts? Or to the mounts built into the rear bed/support?

I mounted them to the shock mount that’s built into the lower bed brace

Will be waiting for an update as to how it holds up. I like that it offers more mounting locations, but, want certain of the strength.

I'm sorry you couldn't get it working. Mine has worked fine since day 1 with a Spektrum DX5c using the SX107 servo. I'll admit that I spent a fair amount of time on the front end making it work in a 3 position (and I rarely use the freewheel so I don't feel you are "sacrificing" anything) but at least you can make the 2 position work fine.

Today was a very short day of working on the Imperial Capra. Installed the OD portal gears, and finally came up with a "fix" for the piece of plastic 'garbage' used on the slipper.
For the slipper spring part number, turn to my Imperial thread.

If you’re having problems with your slipper it may because your slipper pad isn’t seated properly. If it’s not seated on both sides you’re going to get slippage. If it is seated properly it shouldn’t slip at all when tightened.

I hadn't noticed that my slipper pad had slipped. Thanks for that catch...unfortunately, now that means I gotta take the skid off the chassis-frame again. Really getting tired of doing that...lol

Everything is awsome with the Capra, everything but taking it apart... it’s a pain in the a**

Figured I'd post everything that I've done so far over the past couple weeks since I don't have a thread created for my Capra. Still some more things to do... incl SS brass portal covers, scale hubs, SSD dig servo mounts, etc. But here's what I've done so far:

> 3BrosRC G13 steering servo/ 19 mm alum arm.
> Super Shafty aluminum steering servo mounting plate.
> XT60 battery connector.
> SSD 1.9 Trail bead-locks
> Proline Flat Iron tires w/ CI 2-stage med/ soft foams.
> YR Fire Extinguisher.
> Body panels- White/ silver/ gun metal fade.
> Stock grill- painted silver ( will prob also fab up black grill mesh soon).
> Side vent- Hated the vent decals so used metal plate for more scale appearance.
> OEM fuel cell- Painted plus added filler standoff, cap, braided fuel line, and breather valve.
> Rear reflective faux lights- One spot/ two brake lights.
> Light bar wires shrink-wrapped for more scale appearance.

Did some other less significant mods and details but those are the main things.

Pics:

All finished for now...
