Well.. back from neglect to getting some tlc..
As I be been working on my class 3 Sexo, I decided it was time to get a motor back in the xj.

With the crawlmaster pulled and back with its match, in a friends xr. I decided to drop a HH 30t team pro flow in it, for now..

Already for some 4s play time!

Or is it!?....... Its been close to 2 yrs with the rig(if not longer) and I have yet to go thru with a axle tune up. :/
To my knowledge, the internals are All stock(bought it slightly used). The whole rear axle is stock and the front axle has beef tubes, cvd's, and the outer goods but never messed with the locker or R&P gears or bearings..

With that said, I can push my finger into the pumpkin area of my front axle.. =-O I can see the ring gear as well..

Yeah..... That dark spot is a hole!

More to come, Real soon.. I don't think the axles are getting a rebuild, not that they don't deserve it, but new axles all together!

very nice, I just got my first SCX10 after having my wraith for awhile, done a few minor things to it and I think I like the scx more than my wraith! The scx seems more capable out of the box than my wraith was..both were RTR

Agreed... The scx rtr out of the box blows the wraith rtr out of the water! Imo..
I couldn't stand the wraith rtr, I dumped it shortly after I got it and a couple mods done.

This rig has far outlasted my expectations!

Which leads me to my next update..

Tore down, cleaned, od/ud loctite'd to the VP lockers. VP set screws loctite'd snuffed down on the axle shafts but not locked tight on the shaft.
I want the snug slop free fit, without putting a hole in my axle housing's.. worked like a charm! Let them sit since last night...

Got my Rx in and did some tuning on the steering.
A little more tweeking with the tie rod and drag link yet.
Maybe a 7950 is due for a new home here in the cms.

I had to change out my front MIP from bein worn so bad! It wasn't as noticable with the old setup but it sure was with this one.
Like changing the sprockets on a dirt bike but leaving the old chain on.. Not good!

Also needs s bigger pinion. 14t isn't goin to cut it in the speed department

Nice upgrades, how many licks does it take to get to the center of an Axial housing lol? Beef tubes are a great upgrade, love mine!

Thanks Natedog! It takes A LOT to break thru one.. almost 2yrs on 4s and beat down. Ill Try to be a little easier on it for the next 2yrs.. hahahaha..

Well, the front bumper on my tf2 was not made by Ryan of Bent Metal Workz and was not des-Troy proofed.. so since I was headed to the weld shop, I grabbed the xj for a Long awaited scale points upgrade! Cause, see, just cause you have metal shock hoops.. Does Not mean they are worth a dam in the scale points section! So now they are welded and worth scale points as well.

It also managed to completely solder the 2 motor wires together and not attached to the posts At All!

This happened about 5 hrs ago and its still All I can smell! Ugh...

Well, the bec and Rx still power up.. Fxr is Toast!

Moving towards a HH brushless motor(3100kv) and tekin RS for this bad boy.. doubt ill need 4s for that!
I may also drop a HH brushless servo(418oz, ti gears, steering at .14 @ 7.4v) in it as well.. (just waiting on the mail lady)

A box with little boxes showed up! Repping the HH logo on it.

And inside...

I'm not much for blue, but that's one sexy servo! @ 7.4v its rockin 418oz and a transition time of 0.14 sec.. with ti gears, I'm ready to put it to use!

I went from 333oz to 486oz from a 7950 and could tell a Huge improvement.. so i pulled the 50 and got to work..

Name: uploadfromtaptalk1391237167068.jpg
Views: 633

I never used a AHZ horn before but was delighted to find it has full splines inside. as to wear robitronics and GH horns are only half the depth.

Next came the heart of the build.

3100kv 13.5t Sensored 540.. which at first opening the box, only ever having the redline 13.5t and a pro4, I was surprised to see the compact size of this motor. its the exact same size as a 540 brushed motor..

I felt my tranny was do for a rebuild so I grabbed my backup tranny out of my old sporty to get this power plant mounted up.

out with the old and in with the new!

The old tranny was mirrored, so it will be neat to see how/if it actually effects the TT of the rig..

i had a pretty busy rc day at my kitchen table...

So I only got this far for tonight(2a.m.)

But with only the 3 wires to the esc and the bec to go, ill be happy to have some run time tomm after I get back from hunting rabbit. I might even take the Sexo out to chase some of em down! lol..

All wired and tested!

Name: uploadfromtaptalk1391385591674.jpg
Views: 646
Size: 62.1 KB

I had to open the side of the electronics box up enough for the motor wires and with the size of the RS, I moved the bec outside the box as well.

(now in my excitement of running the HH BL motor and HH servo, I didn't take pics of final intsall and setup) I will get them posted tho.

So I hit the rocks...

Name: uploadfromtaptalk1391385808536.jpg

For the servo..

I have been running this setup for the better part of 2 seasons and I couldn't be happier!
First thought was with the quickness, of how quick it steers. Enough that it is noticeable!

I moved onto torque, torture, testing next.. I have some spots that are prone to binding up a rig, so I went straight for em.
I was a little worried in a spot or 3, were I know it would struggle, or so I thought. The servo didn't disappoint! Even with a new HH BL motor, (which is NASTY!) driving it harder an harder into the rocks the servo kept pace to the 7950 without a glitch.
I did some wiggle steering tests while I was in a situation or two.. not only does it have the speed to get the wheels moving but the torque to keep them moving. I Didn't have to resort to long slow side to side action as the servo bogged down. Quick, peppy, strong strokes did the trick and stayed strong, no bogging down.

For the HH, ridiculously over powered monster, bl motor..

I'll start by saying, I don't feel any need for 4s to get results I want, anymore!

I was surprised at how smooth the low end of the motor was(I even feel I'll be gearing down for more). I'm a Huge fan of the crawlmaster pro motors and to add the word Smooth with my thoughts or think it, it was impressive!

It definitely fits the bill for a scale crawler and plenty (hah, "plenty" is a understatement!) Of wheel speed for Any situation.. hill climbs, mud, sand, sweet jumps.. Any situation!

For an all around good feeling motor, from backyard bashing to scale comp or TTC, this is the one!

Monster torque! Smooth, slow, crawling speed, and balls out top speed!

the next ones goin in my sons wraith. I can't wait!

I love these threads where people recreate their 1:1. I'd do the same if I didn't drive a fwd compact car to and from work every weekday.

Ever find out what caused your fire? Solder joint fail and somehow short and cause the fire? ESC shorted by water?

Thanks guys. Its been a good time building and running.

I'm not sure what happen. I had just switched rx's and this one wasn't coated in liquid tape. So I'm thinking that might have been cause for some arch and been part of the cause. No water, maybe just an old abused fxr.. its had a Ruff life! ;)

Ok, small shake down run of the motor and esc on day one.
Phone in one hand and driving with the other..

I have since went from 56/9 to 60/9 and hooked the RS up to the Hotwire. So it even Better now! Now I'm thinking of goin back to the 56/9 or 60/10 gearing.. too much torque even with a bombproof drive train, I'm a little worried bout it out lasting my trigger finger..
