It was beautiful sunny day for crawling up Mt. Work today. There were at least a dozen rigs out and only a handful made the whole journey to the summit and back. The only thing different for my 10.2 was that I used .350 SLW hubs vs. .475 SLW hubs today. Once again my machine killed it out there...there's lots of rigs to compare performance with and very few can match mine, including other 10.2 trucks...I'm so happy that I have my 10.2 dialed in for optimal crawling performance which results in pure driving satisfaction!!!! Last minute decision was to throw the KLR's back on because the foams in the P-L Flat Iron XL tires didn't feel right, there's too much side-to-side movement. I'll have to try them another day. After today's run I question why I am even building another 10.2 rig...I sure hope it matches the performance of this one. Ran into some kool ice formations today once we got up in elevation: In the distance is Mt. Baker in the good 'ole US of A...hello my American friends!!! I got the foams worked out for the P-L 1.9 Flat Iron XL tires. I bought a set of the newly released P-L 1.9 2-stage foams; for the rears I used them as is and with the fronts, I used CI 4.5 soft outer foams with the blue P-L inners. The rears are slightly stiffer but still allow the tire to conform, the fronts feel perfect. Now I will finally be able to test out these tires and the added ground clearance may even make my phenomenally performing 10.2 even better...if that's even possible!!! |

Looking very nice. The Samix Shock Hoops look nice, may wind up picking them up whenever they get back in stock at amain, lol darn near all of Samix parts for the 10.2 are sold out . Good to hear about the Pro Line 2 Stage Foams, got a 4 of them coming tomorrow that I am going to pop into my Hyrax's. Should be interesting Comparing the Hyrax's to my Voodoo KLR's. Well, I should say once I get my VP Front Axle back from being fixed lol.

Great build and thanks for posting so much detail! Very helpful! I realise I am reviving an old topic on this thread. I am trying to use the same Yeti bumper and Exo parts for my own build (which hasn't started yet). I noticed that you have a brace in the middle between the two ends of the chassis rails. Could you please share what parts you used to make that brace? Is that the same as the shock braces? Thanks a lot, Leo

Hey Bill, would you tell me how you setup your "slipper clutch"? And have you made any changes (tweaks) to your setup? Thank You for your time and help! ~D Last edited by Say what?; 02-16-2017 at 05:35 PM. |

The shock braces are Axial 60mm posts with 2mm aluminum spacers on each side. This rule applies to all my rigs, I tighten down the 4mm Nyloc nut until it is snug and then loosen about a half turn. I find it holds the slipper really tight and only lets the slipper spin when there is an extreme bind. This 10.2 truck crawls so good that I haven't had to really tweak or tune anything. I still haven't run it with the new P-L Flatiron XL tires yet, hopefully soon.

I love this truck. It's what inspired me to use my 10.2 axles for a 1.9 rig and find that body. I'm sure it's been mentioned but what foams are you running?

I'm running the the Voodoo "under 10lbs" foams with the silver compound KLR tires. I'm glad this has given you some inspiration J&JFab.

A very sharp 18mm utility knife and then sanding sticks to shape and smooth. Please be careful though...fingers can easily be lost if the knife slips!

For my crawlers, I prefer zero toe but if there was any toe, toed in would be my preference.
