Finally got around to finishing the wood floors in our living room/dining room. I got a great deal on this batch of wood ($2.50 sq foot) but I had to plane it down and mill an adapter piece to match the existing floors. It's all Madrone. All sanded down, sealed and two coats of Bona Traffic. Just need to finish the base moldings. |

Nice work. Must have been a pain plaining all of that down. You going back with the original base and shoe or are you getting something new? |

Eh, not really. I have more time than money I'm replacing all the trim with a Craftsman style base molding. In fact I'm replacing all the trim with new stuff, including the doors. The rest of the floors in living room and halls (375 sq ft) were all made from a tree I cut down, had milled, dried in a solar kiln next to my house, jointed, planed, tongue and grooved, installed, sanded and finished by me......so planing these down was nothing. |

I'm about to build an addition onto my house and I'm doing a full basement shop. I'm super excited to have a 17x25 foot woodworking shop where I don't have to spend 45 minutes digging out tools to use them.

Im the exact opposite. Although I love RCs I kind of feel like Ive been there done that. I just made a career decison and got serious about carpentry about 2yrs ago and have since realized its my true passion. I can work with wood all day and still come home and want to do side projects. Ive never had that with anything else. Given a set amount of money presently, I would much rather invest in tools than RCs. Sounds like a nice sized shop youll have when your done. Again nice work and definately post more stuff if youre so inclined. |

We took a stained glass class and made all 4 of these shades, I made the body out of Madrone (of course) and then I fabricated the arms out of steel, and lastly I made the top and bottom cones out of copper sheet. Don't mind the cobwebs or unfinished window trim in the background Yeah, just got the addition drawings back from the home designer. I'll definitely have a "new workshop" build thread in the future. It's actually kinda hard to find even here, is difficult to dry and has weird shrinkage characteristics. Not your average every day wood, but it sure is cool looking. Let me know if you have a small project and want some. I could ship you some nice stuff.

I used to be a finish carpenter a few years ago and loved it. Now after switching careers I find that I like it even better as a hobby. I can be more creative, no pressure, and I get more satisfaction. I'm currently building a window seat for my landlord, he pays for materials and I supply the labor just because I like doing it. Its coming along nicely, I'll post up some pics when I get home. I have some sanding still to do and some finishing trim pieces, then its prime and paint.

Here's a couple of my latest. First pics are a new bedroom set for my parents, second set is of a custom cherry liquor cabinet for a client. Dad's job to clean up the wires. Cheers. Last edited by Norton; 03-21-2014 at 01:45 AM. |

| Getting there. Built from scratch myself to support my ferret cage. So the top surface will be completely hidden. Made up the doors myself. I'll post a pic after I finish a couple small decos and the stain on. |

A little 'whatever' stand I made from scraps today. A bit of filling/sanding and some paint and itll go to the flea market next weekend. Last edited by RANOVRU; 03-29-2014 at 01:07 PM. |

All I have left to do now is polyurethane it and let it dry! And keeping me warm out there is my own bit of creativity. Portable propane heater ;) |
