Anyone want to comment on the angle of their screens? it seems much sharper of an angle than I've ever seen, Good? Bad? Just different?

some games like AC take side screen angle into account, you sent the view for exactly the angle your running and it works out the math and correct view for you. works amazingly well.

iracing on the other hand fisheye theory is horrible.

so this happened

since i started iRacing, ive had my rig in the living room, and had to slide it in front of the living room TV and thats been my single monitor. was pretty happy but knew one day id like triples(and a dedicated room). too many Cons to VR for me personally.
since i was used to a 50" plasma, i knew id never be able to step down to 24 or 27" monitors.
did my homework on Rtings.com and this was the best rated TV for gaming. ie input lag, responce times etc etc.

got on CAD with the TVs dims and drew up a game plan. i also measured my eye ball height in chair, and the tvs height with stands to get the center of the tv(in game horizon) even with my eye level, to get the shelf height exact. #OCD

finished it up a couple weeks ago. also picked up some satallite speakers and sub from amazon cheap. the sats at 180* to my head really helps immersion and L/R surround. and the sub by my feet, shakes the floor and then the pedals, and really feels real.
the edges of the side TVs wrap all the way to the side of my head. ie about 178* FOV. i cant see the ends from my perifrial.

both our wives were out of town for the weekend, so i invited my old man over for some nascar (he watchs them) it was his first time. he had a blast.

been really happy with is so far. Running it off my same AMD 290X 8Gb card. been impressed so far. thought i might have to pick up a 1080.
only issue has been heat. our house AC isnt great, and insulation is shot (plus 100 degree texas heat). and with 3 TVs, big PC, Wheel heat, etc in a tiny 9x10 bedroom it gets over 80+. feels like your in a real race car lol.

Sweet setup! I'm jealous of those massive screens! I don't think iRacing is pretty enough that I'd notice any framerate issues. iRacing is really lacking in the graphics department, but with all the latency issues that it has I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

So when's your dad getting a setup?

Nice triple setup! I always worry I dont have the horsepower to go with triples (I have a 980 ti hybrid) and I definitely dont have the needed space, Doh!

I noticed TV manufactures are just starting to work on taking out the smart TV bs and latency to make them more "monitor like" which is awesome, its about time we had the lower prices and bigger sizes TV's come in available for gaming.

on my single screen i could run everything maxed, i ran 150-250 fps. on the triples i think its been 50-90 fps. ill have to re-look.

sadly iracings FOV calculator and display for triples BLOWS. technically i need about 178 FOV. but iracings is all jacked up and stretches the sides something terrible you can see it in the 3rd pic. and thats with FOV set to only 130. and my real FOV it looked like you were sitting in the trunk, and looking threw and extreme fisheye.

AC's triple setup is PERFECT. true real sight just as you would see it in real life. NO distortion. i need to do a screen shot comparison......

lol he just got into RC trucks so probly never.

That distortion is bad. I bet it's frustrating having a 40" screen and then losing 30 or 40 percent of the view to the roll cage. Still an awesome setup!

For the price of iRacing they really do lag far behind in terms of graphics and "fit and finish" (can't think of a better way to put it at the moment). I wish they'd stop creating new classes and perfect what they have before expanding. That'll never happen though because new content, not updates, brings in the revenue.

this was always my anti triples argument in iracing. the 2 foot long side mirrors and 8 foot long doors. drives me crazy.
AC nailed it.

now i have to post the comparison....

Congrats Cory, that's a sweet setup.

Humboldt, the 980ti should run triples just fine at 1080p. That's still a damn good card even today.

ok heres my beef with iracing triples calculator/FOV

same car, same track, same position on track
resolution 5760 x 1080
notice how morphed iracing is and so far away. sides are EXTREMELY stretched.
note the difference not just in the cockpit, but the track ahead dispite being in the exact same position.

Here is an exact CAD drawing i did of my setup
43" TVs, 38.3" wide with bezel, 37" wide no bezel screen width
48 degree side monitor angle
eye ball to center TV 30"
i need right around 179 degree FOV
3rd party calculators confirm my CAD drawing calculation

so i asked for some help on the iracing forums yesterday for my morphed FOV issue. they told me to make sure "multi projection" was checked (ie render each screen individually. )
what a difference! fixed me right up! worked great last night. i could look over and see michel right beside me and zero distortion or stretching.
i dont under stand why this is an option. when you change the drop down from 1 screen to 3, why wouldnt they just turn this on automatically in the background software. who would NOT want it?
it also increased the max FOV from 160 to? i re-ran the iracing calc and it said 174 so thats what i ran. close enough to the 179 i really need.
also fixed the depth perception issue with the morphed FOV.

I wish I lived closer so I could try out triples to compare. When I bought my rift, it was actually cheaper than buying three decent gaming monitors for doing triples.

Sweet! I'm glad it was just a simple checkbox for you.

I'd love to come over to try out triples as well. Racing on one screen you do lose a lot. I have to put a lot more trust in the spotter and hit the D-pad left or right to glance next to me. Hitting the D-pad is often tough to do when you're in a heated battle or when you're trying to not wreck somebody else.

I wish VR worked for me. If it did I probably wouldn't race without it. But with it I felt insanely sick after just a few minutes and with mine having sound issues I just decided to return it.

I have no doubt I'd enjoy it. There are pros and cons to both VR and regular monitors also. For me personally, I don't think I could go back to the lack of depth perception, or the intuitiveness of VR when looking into the corner to spot my apex, etc. But I'd still like to try it just to know. Hell, maybe it would change my mind that trips are where it's at, you never know unless you try it.

I'm lucky that I don't get motion sick. Even on vacation this year for my first trip out to sea, bombing through 6 footers at 30 knots, many off the back bow hurling, I was on the front bow loving every minute of it taking pics and videos. It was like a 2.5hr roller coaster ride.

VR, for sure, ads a dimension that nothing else can. It makes sim racing more realistic on another level. You can look left, right, up or down to see more of the track, your competitors, or even the inside of your car. It's awesome.

I wasn't too motion sensitive as a kid, but now I'm really bad. I do blame my two handfuls of concussions on that.
