Well, the fun was short lived. I bought a new Temper from my local hobby shop.

I got home, charged the battery and turned the truck on. I slowly pulled the throttle and heard “pop!”. Driveshaft broke immediately, truck didn’t even move an inch.

I have no clue why something would have been bound up. This was on a flat concrete floor. Now I had to order some Chinese shafts for a WL Toys which should be here tomorrow.

I’m not impressed so far.

Turns out the pin in the wheel hub worked its way out, just a little bit. That was the bind that broke the shaft. The good news is that the upgrade should do just fine.

My son loves his Temper, but I've lost my faith in it.. Lovely little crawler, but you need 2 of these so you can use the other one when waiting for the spares to arrive.

First the skid plate cracked, and it took a month to get a new one. Now one of the screws in the front end has broken in two (I tried to attach a picture but could find only "insert link to an image") , and the nut is somewhere out there.. so I'd need ECX215000 and ECX216004.

It'll cost me ~40 USD (34 EUR) and most likely takes a month, again, for the parts to arrive.

Sorry to ask this in Temper thread, but I want something similar, that would not be broken all the time. Can be little bigger, but does not have to be. Same goes with speed, can go faster, but does not have to. I could spend about 2x the price of the Temper.

Thank you!

Great thread guys. Here's some running footage of my sons from Feb 2019. I learned pretty quickly that this crawler requires some finesse otherwise you just start exploding parts.

Ours is running a 20kg servo and class 1 Hyrax on amazon beadlocks.

I've tried an 18T Traxxas pinion, and a few other 48P pinions for 1/8" shaft (by using a 1/8" to 2mm sleeve). They do slow the rig down nicely, but are all horribly noisy.

The last page of this thread contains several posts on the subject:

1.9 Barrage RTR 1/10 Crawler

If you come up with something that works better, by all means let us know.
I ordered a new (original) spur gear, and have a set of small pinion gears (13,14,15,16 and 17 teeth, 48P).

Has anyone got any experience with gearing the G2 (or Barrage) that low?

Will the plastic gears in the gearbox or spur gear handle that kind of torque?

I have already upgraded to metal driveshafts, everything else still stock.

It performs well, but now it is more obvious lack of power. Revolver 380 and Mamba Micro X already waits for me at my friend in US, it can solve this issue.

In steep climbs it doesn't flip over more than stock setup. It is not surprise, because stock Temper is heavy at top and much heavier axles moves CG down. Stock 1.7" wheels doesn't fit to this MST MPA axles, I use 1.9" from Capra.

Edit: In real it sits lower than on this picture:

What size axle are these considered? d
