Use 2mm instead of 2-56, they screw on easier. Hobbyking has stainless steel rods with threads on the ends and are cheap. Much nicer than all-thread.

You're welcome surfinstud!

Has anyone taken pictures of the process of improving the steering throw? I have a new axle set and they're pretty rough. So bad I tossed them aside and forgot about them.

I read this from the beginning and saw a post about modifying a servo for the motor and gear, but the pics don't show up. Anyone have copies they can post?

There's a couple of similar motors on hobbyking at the moment, so I was hoping you'd confirm which 1 it is? Keen to use the tried and tested 1!

I think it's 1 of these 2 -

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hextroni...er-2000kv.html

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/18-11-20...unner-10g.html

It looks more like the first 1 I think. I thought you'd linked to it earlier, but I can only find the link for the ESC now.

Cheers

Any clue how many hours you have on it?

I got a new stock motor to run through the 1060esc. So underpowered, but total throttle control and mild drag brake is nice! Cant do inclines, but anything realistic in his path, he climbs right over. (Firewood, rocks, grass etc.) If this motor lasts more than 5 hours, Thatd be great; after it fries ill go back to the servo motor. Way torquier.

Ill bet, down the road, ill go brushless esc and then the micro outrunner like you have. I am following that setup closely, would like to see it last a long time!!

Not much time as I've been busy as of late. Maybe an hour total time on it. The joys of brushes are the lack of wearable parts other than bearings. I've been running an outrunner on my trailfinder for almost a year through mud, water, and sand and it's still just as strong as the day I installed it.

I didn't take a lot, but this is what I did to my knuckles to drastically improve the steering angle. First, I chopped off the rear steering arms, then I clearanced the knuckles so they wouldn't hit the shocks at full lock. I also took a cone-shaped bit in my Dremel to the dogbones to max out the throw in them. Night and day difference in steering over stock.

Looks promising! Do you have a photo with the truck in full lock with this set up?

Here you go. I could probably get a little more out of the dogbones, but as small as they are I was afraid to go further. I'm building it for competition and don't want to compromise the strength.

Wow that's an amazing improvement. Looks like I need to shave a bit more off my knuckles. Can you show a pic of the dogbone, I'm not sure I've grasped that bit. Also have you run it like this or is it untested?

I don't have any pics of the dogbone, I'll try to get one later. Just use a cone shaped bit and dremel out the cup a little, it's pretty easy to do.
And yes, I've put several lipos through it like this, so I know it works and is still plenty strong enough.

I also moved the lower links (just in front) to the inside of the axle mounts so they would clear the huge Scrambler tires.

Cool cheers that's good to know. I see what you mean re the dogbones - I thought you were talking about the bones not the cups hence my confusion

Amazing! Did you do anything to the dog bone and bit where the dog bone slotted into? I shaved mine but couldn't get as much angle as your photo. Looks like it's limited by the dog bone and the slotted bit maximum alloweable angle not the knuckles ...

Yes, I put a cone shaped bit in my Dremel and opened up the cups a bit.

That sounds to be similar to what you said in post #443 with pictures.

Great little review and something I will be copying this when I get my new push rod for custom links.

I had a go at mine today. I'd already shaved my knuckles without much improvement, but combined with opening up the cups my truck now has a turning circle of approx 3ft, and I've been a bit more cautious than papabash.

Full credit for trailblazing this The steering angle was a major issue that I thought could only be solved by a CVD / steering knuckle upgrade from rc4wd. Fingers crossed I haven't removed too much material, I guess time will tell!

Sorry i mid understood the cup in the early post.

Got it. When you said widen a bit, around 2mm? It is tiny so extra care is required. Just that I know the limit...

I really don't know how far I went. If you hold the cup upright, you will see that there is a flat area around the rim. I removed enough material to make that edge almost sharp, if that makes sense.

Emm... anyone? Bit confused now. I originally thought to widen the throw I deepen the two slots?
