Looking for something with lower gearing for this thing, and wondered about a servo. Had a extra Tactic sitting around, so i decided to mod it to try that as a transmission. I took the controller board out along with the pot and pulled the pin on the final gear to let it rotate all around. I drilled a hole all the way through the final gear so i could put my homemade output on. It works good if you want to go really slow. I looked up the servo and is 0.17 for 60°, so that's around a sec for a full rotation. Thinking of getting a faster servo to try unless something else comes up first. I have around 2 hours on this mod and it is still running good.

This is what this hobby is all about. Great mod.

I have torn apart dozens of servos and used them for different things but I never thought of using one like that. That's awesome.

I think you will like that on 3S.

Nice. This is what many used to do before RTR micro crawlers were available using SSMT axles.

You are correct I was thinking of the BRXL, didn't know Tekin had a Micro!

The B1-R is a nice controller, but for the same $ a micro sidewinder is a little slimmer and will do brushed & Brushless and has tons of adjustment. If you're on a budget the xys-20a ESC is very tiny and usually only $12. Its brushed only

The way I have mine now seems to be good with the Sidewinder Micro and the 2S lipo, the gearing is just not right, it moves quite quickly now, probably twice as fast as stock so it just needs to drop some top end and pickup some low end torque. I would think RC4WD just scaled down the trans in the GLII for this rig.. but who knows. Im going to try some different motors and see if I can find something that will improve the low end. IT's not a comp crawler or anything so to me I almost have it where I would like it, except for the suspension and steering, I still need to address that.

I'd be happy if it had half the top speed and twice the torque of stock. The suspension and steering angle I can deal with.

I am working on a very similar set up right now. I'm glad to see yours worked out. Seems quite torquey.

I'd say that's perfect for crawling.

Almost the same as mine.

Decided to try and get the original transmission to work even though the servo motor seems to be doing OK.
Took the original motor and gutted it. Then i cut the can down and drilled a hole in the back plate for the extra shaft to come threw.
I can cut more of the can down to make it shorter. I was thinking of mounting a gear to it or using it as a input shaft for a divorced setup.

You will loose some torque with the shorter can.

Sweet work Druxus that's exactly what I was saying seems like a good way to go for a divorced setup with a bigger motor. Are you going to mount the motor to the shaft or make a motor plate with a spur & pinion for some more reduction?

Yeah i was thinking a spur and pinion setup with a motor plate attached to the old can

There is nothing in the can. I am using it to support the shaft that has the original pinion gear in the transmission. It also had the right bolt pattern, thought it would be easier this way then trying to come up with a custom plate. Might be wrong but I'm gonna give it a try.

Good job, funny enough this was actually the method I tried for my first attempt at a divorced setup but decided to ditch it as I wanted to keep everything as scale as I could, no offense to your method though it is a good option and everyone can do it easy enough plus it's a good way to sacrifice that sucky little motor

Oh. Cool.

I don't have one of these rigs so I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I just sent Dan my motor to see what he can do for winding and a pinion. there are replacement motors here for those of you who want to tinker.
