All two (summit) or three speed (Tamiya) transmissions have this characteristic.
The Emaxx tranny, as well.

Ahh I see, Im only use to a savage nitro with a 3 speed. Which you dont notice it so much

Im guessing it would be a little more exaggerated with a 55T motor on low gear. We will wack in the stock 27T and see if it pleases him more. And I will tell him it makes it a little more realistic as you need to control direction throttle to stay on a peak ;)

Ok, Thanks as he was worried he got a faulty one. Here they charged us 80% tax so it was a worry if we had to send it back and then have to pay the tax again etc...

Hehe the most expensive ax2 here almost 260 dollars for him just to have it.

Will add the thread lock on the shifter shaft.

Me personally had a diablo when you guys were new. And it didnt last to well, diffncasings got very brittel fast and snapped and had problems with linkages on the tranny. Anyway quality seems nicer now! Build many tf2's for teenages here ;)

Question Re: AX2 2 Speed Transmission for Axial Wraith & SCX10/Honcho

Wanting to get this tranny for my Boyer truggy. Does anyone currently run the ax2 in theirs? If so, what all do I need for mod to correctly install in order not to have binding issues or drive-line issues?? Any info would be appreciated!!!

thx

That's because the nitro models with multiple speeds use a centrifugal 2/3 speed transmission that automatically shift as the rpm's come up using centrifugal force to fling a lever out to catch on the next higher gear. Completely different system.

I have the 2 speed in my Boyer truggy build. Depending on your final ride height, driveshaft angle shouldn't be a problem. Since the new trans is longer than the stock gearbox one shaft (or both) needs to be shorter. The stock skidplate is pre-drilled for the R2 trans I believe, so drilling the new hole pattern is needed. I mounted the shift servo along side the trans to make room for the battery tray cross-wise on the chassis between the trans and front shock mounts.

Thanks TrailDawg! Appreciate the pics as reference as well.

Do you like the setup?? I just felt with the truggy the wheel speed was too slow and it is a HEAVY rig, I'm sure this will make a huge difference. Plus might be able to bring the COG down to keep it from rolling as much.

Glad to be of some help! My rig is still in the finishing stage, so I have no idea how it will handle. It IS a beast of a chassis, so low gear should be a plus . I also have the 2 speed in an SCX-10 Comanche and I love it! Steep downhill descents w/o using the brakes are a breeze, and carefully clawing your way up stuff in low gear is as good as it gets. Good speed in 2nd for general trail running too.

Thanks again TraiDawg, you've certainly made my decision to get the ax2 very easy!

Keep me posted how your truggy mod goes as well.

crawling in low gear and not even in the throttle? maybe it just feel apart at that point but, it actually broke when you were hammering it seconds earlier?

have you checked for binding in the drivetrain yet?

was a wheel stuck in a hole?

what was happening exactly?

drivetrain is fine no binding

nope not stuck in a hole

just normal crawling im really not sure when or why it snaped.it appears to be at a spot were the shaft decreases in size.

I made a servo saver rod, it also keeps the connecting block from rotating.

But setting EPAs properly will help the most.

My EPA's are set near 0 for 1st gear and something like 40 for second gear. It works perfectly and shifts smooth every time.
