One more time for us newbs. Are you saying weight of rim + tire + 9-10oz per front wheel?

Yep, its a little on the heavy side for some places, but overall the rig feels very planted this way.

My front tires/rim/foam combo weighs in at 15oz... or around 9oz. added to the stock rims.

My rears are around 10oz. or around 3-4oz added to each rim.

Now, if you're running somewhere slippery (Seattle sounds slippery ) I would start with 5-6oz added in the front and 2-3oz. added in the rear. The extra weight can start to work against you on slick stuff.

Here's a new setup for you guys to try. Its been working pretty well out here for the last few weeks...

I switched to a lighter oil and gold springs front and rear. Then I moved the upper links down in the rear to help plant the front end a little bit better on climbs. Currently, the rig can slow crawl up faces that I would have had to power up before.

The front end tracks a lot better in off-camber stuff too. I added a bigger external limiter to each of my shocks to prevent too much body roll, and it helped.

Front Suspension:

Upper Links: Top hole

Shock Arm: Center hole (B)

Shock Mount: Bottom hole (1)

Shock Oil: Losi 45wt.

Piston: Orange #55 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA5047

Internal Limiters: none

External Limiters: 20mm

Springs: Losi Gold http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA5144

Rear Suspension
Upper Links: Bottom hole

Shock Arm: Center hole (B)

Shock Mount: Middle hole (3)

Shock Oil: Losi 40wt. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA5226

Piston: Red #56 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA5046

Internal Limiters: none

External Limiters: 20mm

Springs: Losi Gold http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA5144

You may have noticed a few new things in the last post.

I've been on a mission to shed as much weight from the chassis in this rig as possible.

So far I've...

Moved the ESC back to the rear links

Switched out all the chassis hardware with 4-40 Ti stuff

Switched to Aluminum mini-nuts http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA6306

Graphite shock arms
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA1114

Every bit of weight saved up high helps... and the rig is a lot more planted on sidehills then it was before.

That's a 1.9 beadlock under the tire

Jake, how are liking the gold's up front versus the grays? Looked at trying gold front, gray rear and it felt almost too soft to me. Right now I have gray front, 56 piston, #3 hole and 50wt oil, and the rear is white, #56 piston, #4 hole, and 50wt and it seems really well planted.

Can you float a tire if needed with your set-up at all or does it slinky along following the terrain? From the pic it looks really stable for sure.

Thanks!

I dropped down to a 15 for a little bit better low end control. Now I'm getting 30-40+ minutes of runtime with my Losi 3S 1350 packs.

Looking for some help in regards to climbing .... My rig wants to pull itself up ond over, the front end will not settle and grip on extreme angles.

Will moving the rear upper link to the top, or bottom hole help this?

Thanks in advance!!

From an earlier post by Jake ... "I switched to a lighter oil and gold springs front and rear. Then I moved the upper links down in the rear to help plant the front end a little bit better on climbs. Currently, the rig can slow crawl up faces that I would have had to power up before. "

So, I would think moving the rear uppers to the lower hole would help plant the front end more.

This works with the softer set-up. Unless you have golds or grays out back and up front, then I would run the rear uppers in the middle hole to help keep it planted.

My old set-up had whites all around, 60wt all around, and rears in the lower hole and that set-up had issues with letting the front end settle on the steeps. With a gray front, white rear, and light oil all around moving both the front and rear links up one hole has really helped it out.

I agree. With whites or the dual-rate springs in the rear, I ran the uppers in the middle or the top hole in the rear. With the Gold springs, the rig feels like it climbs better with the rear uppers in the bottom hole.

One thing to consider is that I went from a year-old set of white springs down to a set of Golds, so it probably wasn't a big jump in spring rate. My whites had been around the world and seen a few hundred battery packs worth of runtime...so they were probably a little worn out
