Does that solid driveshaft work ok? I'm suspicious of that as no play and any misalignment would wreck the transmission bearings. Could be (probably) wrong though.

if the alignment is spot-on (like, on a TF2 its designed for) probably non-issue.

in my situation i might use another jointed shaft incase of any change in angle from T case to bearing. and im sure there would be since my T case is still on an ascender skid, not on a TF2 t-case skid.

That is a 12" wheel base but the trans is forward of where it would be typically so I had to add about half inch to the length. I just used the longest tubes and one of the longest spline shafts and slid it all together after cutting the spline end off. Then mounted it on the truck to see if I had to trim any or to adjust where I wanted the spline positioned. I then dilled a hole through one tube and spline, and used a link set screw and trimmed it so it didn't stick out of the drive shaft once screwed in.

i still need to slide the frame out and see where the wheelbase will dictate driveshaft length.
to complicate things, i also have a fwd motor position but i still need a linked skid for the front. that's where my T-case is mounted.
i could do some crazy re-engineering of it and cut the skid in half so i retain the front links but i could mount the T-case lower, and better aligned with a bearing carrier.
the problem then is what all the TF2 guys complain about and that's the boat anchor Tcase skid hanging down from the underside.

i could solve most of this if i just adapt a scale transmission/married Tcase and maybe fab up some "radius arm" brackets for the front lower links. that would eliminate the skid entirely and scale accuracy would be nearly identical to the 1:1.
(even though my pop's was 2WD, this would be accurate to that year's 4X4. if im gonna fudge it, i want do it accurately)

so yeah... need to stretch out the rails to see what i will do about driveshaft stuff.
haven't been able to do any more body prep. san diego is getting a heavy dose of some wet stuff from the sky. my paint booth is a portable work table in the backyard. painting is on hold. focus is on mocking up stuff both for this and my son's chebby truggy cage.
and im starting on a total rebirth of my yeti.
build thread on that soon. just waiting on my TH links currently on the slow boat.

Yes it is difficult to get the transfer case just right. Mine sticks out just a hair. Maybe 1/4" at most. Luckily I have done this twice now so the scout has just been falling together. Great work so far! Keep those irons hot!

Radius arms up front in those years on 2wd and 4x4. GCM makes a Ford radius setup, but you could make your own too. My TF2 transfer case is not very noticeable of a hangup spot, using the Bowhouse high clearance skid.

yeah but the GCM kit is:
a) made out of unobtanium ($$$)
b) not in stock

so i will probably try to scratch build some sort of radius arm setup later. but then i would need to look at more accurate axles, as well. im torn there because this truck really got its start with these codyboy axles.
and yes i really like bowhouse stuff. i would go to them for axles if i ever replaced these codyboys, and probably the t-case skid too.

still need to find time to stretch out the frame to see how to attack the driveshaft situation.
oh and the rain stopped. finally. that was a strange, wet week or so.
i better get crackin. 5/18 will be here before we know it!

found some reference pics of the same glasstite bed topper my pop had...





lots of styrene in my future... but not nearly as bad as scratch building the whole thing. mostly just need to build up the sides, and make the rear match the width of the sides with that wrap-around style hatch instead of flush-mount glass. i might do the external door hinges too. also note its got two latch handles instead of one with linkage.

i have a "whats on shinchu's bench" vid, but its in a couple parts and a bit lengthy. i still don't have any editing software even though 2mtech gave me homework to get something. bad shinchu. BAD!
shall i upload it anyway and beat imthatguy to the punch? lol i saw he is about to put out the same vid and i actually recorded mine last weekend. ironic...

yup i think i know how to go about it with some layers and more putty, NOT the green putty i used on my sons chebby. that stuff is horrible. gonna try Tamiya putty that i hear is leaps and bounds better.
not sure how much work i can do this weekend. watching baby while the girls go watch Disney on ice. and when im not doing that my daughter got a new desk/bed thing i get to assemble
maybe some late nights with energy drinks and lynyrd skynyrd...

My Grandpa had a topper like that on his old Dodge. When we were kids we got smart and broke off the GL on Glasstite. He wasn't happy with us, I couldn't sit for the rest of the day lol

ok i might have to do something clever with that on the 1:10 version hahaha maybe just one side.
only story i have about it was when we got stuck in the mud getting to a camping spot, he was reaching inside with his torso in the topper while standing on the bumper, and the hi-lift jack slipped (truck was about 4 ft up).
topper door slammed on his back and in what seemed like a split second later, he had thrown the hi-lift jack about 30 yards.

note to the wise: hi-lifts work like crap when covered in mud.
(and yes i plan on having a 1:10 replica of his old blue hi-lift behind the seat)

Just got back from the train store where I picked up more styrene, paint, and squadron WHITE putty. The kind gentleman that worked there said its better suited for my needs than the green stuff I used for the chebby. I showed him both trucks on my phone and he and his co worker got a kick out my old pick em ups. Especially when I said the chebby belong to my son they asked him if he crashes it. He said nope just scale rock crawling.

No work yet. Stayed up until 11 last night putting together my daughter's new desk bed thing... From Ikea.
My hands hurt so bad I didn't want to look at any more tools. No ammount of caffine could have changed that haha
Girls went to disney on ice so I'm keeping the boys busy. Maybe when the girls get home I sneak off to the bench and stretch the wheelbase between coats of primer... ;)
