Codyboy you should look into bps chassis. They make stainless steel chassis for the ascender. 60 bucks and they look good.

This build needs steel white spokes!

Thanks for the input and kind words guys!

Ok, I have a set of the SSD white spokes, so I think that's what it is going to be. I kind of like the look of the 1.7 Wranglers on them.

I should get a Cheeseburger from Erik Monday, so in the meantime I'm
working on bumpers and sliders. I kind of wanted to stay with SS round tube
look for the sliders and front. Painted tube for the rear bumper.

More later,
Ernie

Time for a little update.
A little more work on the bumpers. Still need to add a small stinger.

Some mounting brackets.

Still have work to do, but wanted to see how it would fit.

New motor, I wanted to give this a try, HH revolver, I had one a couple years ago, and liked it. Should have a good slow startup. Also the Dlux fab Cheeseburger.

Fits nicely in the low motor "Divorce mount" I put together.

Clears the links and front drive shaft.

Everything cycles with no binding.

Want to build a T-case? all the gears you need.

More a little later.
Ernie

You are burning the midnight oil Ernie(or maybe you are out west. It’s late here) That is a serious looking machine. The bumper is coming along nicely.

No midnight oil here, I'm usually sawing logs by 10pm. West coast, Oregon to be exact! Thanks for the comps!

Thanks, I can only hope it crawls as good as my Portal Ascender!

Thanks Nate, and no going off of my diet with a real cheeseburger for me!

Just a little update, I went up to Lunsford Racing's shop Monday to get some Titanium for this build and picked up a old old friend.

My first comp rig ever.

When Gil Losi designed the JRX2 this car went on the shelf and finally ended up on Kelly's display shelf at his office.

Back then I was like most guys, a shoe string racer so money was tight. This rig was raced with the resister speed control and still has bushings!

I think it looks good in it's new home!

And back to what I'm doing today. Some electronics.

Thanks Todd, I think this build is becoming a little boring, Don't have many checking it out anymore. Hope you're having time to get out and play a little with your toys, and hopefully feeling better every day.

I don't know about the others Ernie, can only speak for myself, but I find none of your builds "boring". Anything but. Most times I don't have anything to add, cause I'm technically new to this gig yet, so reading all I can, and absorb what I can helps.
I personally am amazed at your talent as a builder. I know (think) you think you're just a guy who builds crawlers, but myself am in WOW at what you come up with...
Thanks, am doing better, slow but sure.

Such is life with a RCC build thread these days.

You may end up talking to yourself for a while but you never know who will be reading and inspired by your work. If you motivate one guy to pick up the wrenches and start building just by posting a few pictures of something you were working on, then it is worth it.

Certainly not boring, Ernie, but I can only speak for myself that this particular build is maybe not as breathtakingly exciting as most of your endeavor threads filled with pics of innovative design expertise and fabrication genius that inspire a great many of us.

Last boring thing I saw from Oregon was a Trailblazers game

Thanks Todd, I guess since I've been doing it for a while (30 some years) that I should have learned a few tricks! I think sometimes we take for granite the skills, tools and knowledge we have. One of the reasons I try to pass as much of it forward as I can.
So happy your getting better!!!

Hey M1itch, you need to charge some batteries and get back on the rocks!!
Thanks for checking us out once in a while.

Very well said, thanks for the insight.

They were good back in the Clyde Drexler days!

Thanks for the input, my main goal for this build was to see if I could make the three link work in ridding some of the TT. It may get better as I progress. Working on some idea with another vender on here, we will see if can make some cool part available to some of you guys!

Ernie

Bumper update,

Rear,

Drill 1/4" holes in the bumper tube an soldered some 1/4" SS thin wall tubing in the holes. Flattened the 1/4" for mounting holes, pretty easy mounts. Used this for bumpers all the time.

Finished the front bumper with a stinger and turnbuckle mounts.

And a pic of a new addition to the stable!

Thanks for looking guys, hope I can inspire some of you. It isn't rocket science and all you need to do is step out of your comfort zone just a little.

Any questions, just ask!

Ernie
