Gotta keep this thing movin'... On to fender aprons, kick panels, and front wheel wells. Here is where she sits as of today.

Driver side wheel well with all the crazy bends for clearing the power steering.

Passenger side mounted to the fender apron and core support.

Test fit of front clip. Still needs the support brackets from core to wells and wells to firewall.

Good Lord! It's time to clean up the workbench too!

Thanks! The hardest/most time consuming part is taking all the measurements and making the scale templates.

If only my wife thought it was cool

I hope to gain some more knowledge from you all about electronics, motors and esc's because this stuff is all new to me. Won't be so cool if I can't make it run

Alrighty, got to make sure nobody thinks i'm slacking off, here are a few more progress shots of the front clip.
Core to fender/battery tray supports and body mount.

Left side body mount.

Floor supports (still needs the braces for under the seats and seat belt tabs).

And almost last (but not least) the press plate for the rear bed. I had been trying to figure out a way to get nice crisp bed lines and decided to make a set of dies out of some scrap 6061 1/4 inch plate i had.

I've had great results in the past milling it on the table saw with a carbide metal cutting blade. I love how clean it cuts until it doesn't. For those of you that are observant, you can see the obvious oops in the photo. As i was making the last pass on the top horizontal cut, I hear a loud snap and the piece jumps out from under the push block, hits the fence then me and bounces to the floor. As it bounces my first thought is oh crap, I just...... ruined the piece. I'm sure most of you know where this is going.

Yeh, I felt something hit my finger but it really didn't hurt so i pick up the aluminum and inspect the damage. Not too bad but it does have a bit of me on it as well. HMMMMM, Blood sacrifice has been made to the project so all should go well from here on out! ;) Then I start leaking. Here is the jist of what happened... Carbide tooth broke off the blade while feeding it, that caused the piece to jump out from under the push block, grabbing more blade, causing it to flex and grab even more and now we have a baseball pitching machine that throws large bits of sharp 6061 aluminum. Cool huh?

Walk of shame upstairs to tell the wife we are changing date night to an ER visit :( (she wouldn't let me super glue it back together).

Sorry, no pre-op photos but for those of you with stronger fortitude, here is 24 hours post-op. 4 sutures later ( nothing they could do for the missing smiley face section). And yes, I did photoshop out my fingerprint to protect the stupid (me) ;)

I also got started on the windshield frame but failed to get pics for obvious reasons.

I really don't like leaking.

Pitty party is over... on to the windshield frame.

boxed sides were a PIA to bend but they match the 1:1. Just need the drip edges tacked on.

Test fit to top cross piece

inside detail

And of course there needs to be a hinge to fold the windshield down. None of the bronco vendors seem to sell them in 1/10th scale so...

Just need to trim it up and tack it to the cowl.

Wow, those hinges! I can't tell from the picture but did you roll the sheet metal for the hinge knuckles or did you attach a small tube to it?

Just have to start with what a great site this is. Yup, I've been lurking for a few weeks drooling over the gobs of cool rigs and crazy skills. LoneRanger and Metal Masher have inspired me to start one of my own. Up front, I HAVE ALMOST ZERO RC experience but i've been reading up on what others have done so i'll hold off on all the stupid noob questions for now!

I have always loved the early bronco and have a fairly well built 1/1 scale '66 that i used to wheel with (life got in the way). I am also in the process of building an uncut 72 half cab plow truck that will be the inspiration for this 1/10 version. I'm hoping to build as much from scratch as possible (i'm also poor and cheap).

So my plan was to start out with scaling some frame diagrams from the web and then bend up some 1/2" square tube. Let the fun begin.

Next step... Cut it in half with the cutoff wheel, trace the frame on some scrap steel and cut them out to box in the frame. It's a Bronco so it's gotta have a full boxed frame, right?

Clamp and weld!

Now for the ladders and first stab at bending up the little bits and pieces. How did they ever bend those parts for the real one...

Printed out templates to spray mount to the steel and trim/grind/sand/bend.

I love working in this scale. How 'bout some spring shackles... yum.

Next up will be some scale leaf springs.

What is the recommended hardware size for mounting springs? I was thinking M3? thoughts/comments welcome. Don't worry, I have thick skin!
How are you bending these so perfect? I just made some link mounts and struggled making them square and even

A small pair of vise grips and then bend down the side wings. I also have a pair of sheetmetal vise grips for bending longer stuff. I'd post a pic but photobucket is being a poop tonight. I did have some updates of how the bed dies worked out but I guess it will have to wait.

Simply in awe....just amazing fab skills here. Sorry about the loss of flesh, been there, lost a tip to an old Pontiac Lemans rear axle, stitches brought back memories.
