Mean Green 6x6 Cool pics. That second one down looks like a real truck. the guy in the background kinda ruins it though. Last edited by Norcal crawler; 03-31-2008 at 10:30 AM. | |

I was thinking about downsizing my collection of R/C stuff so I decided to turn this into a more versatile rig in order to fill the shoes of my Highlift. The performance and reliability of this thing is great but I was always short of wheel speed and since I have always enjoyed the thrill of shifting through the gears, it was the logical direction to go. My dilema was deciding which 3-speed to use. I had several 3-speeds to choose from but eventually decided on the Tamiya semi truck one due to availability of parts and configuration. The Bruiser or the Hilux transmissions were the original plan but lack of parts availability and several weak links made me decide otherwise. Highlift was just too bulky to use. I started by mounting an Axial trans for use as a T-case with the input cut short and biased far to the right with the outputs in the original position as the old trans. Next came the installation of the transmission which I coupled to the Axial via a Tamiya U-joint. Then I made a couple of simple mounts to secure it to the chassis. Unfortunately the interior interferes with the transmission so I had to temporarily remove it but the body installed clears with pleanty of room. Here are the profile shots without the body. Not too bad I suppose. The CG isn't going to be too bad either. Here's the near complete layout. Just need to install a shift servo, a mount for the ESC, secure the battery tray and maybe put the Goat system in it. Last edited by chino63; 11-27-2008 at 04:55 AM. |

Holy shit dean, amazing work. It doesn't matter what you add to this truck it always gets better and better. Are you going to start using lipos? you could damn near save a pound by that. Nice work on mounting the trans. Thanks for the Tech.

Thanks guys. I cant wait to drive this thing! Should be done soon. Lipo's? I have a few but I hear bad things happen when they get submerged. Besides, I have to kill off all my NiMH's first. |

| Looking good Dean, I too have heard bad things about LIPOs and water... I have been running LIPOs in my clone more recently, only if I know I am not playing submarine that day though.

Sweet build! If only someone could come up with a way to hide the single lug nut it'd be hard to know it wasn't real from most of the angles.

All finished, just had an issue with the shift linkage but easily fixed. Small bracket to keep things from rotating and causing shifting issues. Also made a small bracket to secure the shift servo to the front body mount. Next will be the install of the Novak Goat, then it's off to the rocks, mud, sand, etc. BTW, the Losi MRC servo is perfect for a shift servo. |

Can't remember, sorry. Got it on ebay though. Installed the Goat system and damn! This thing has some decent wheel speed for a crawler in 3rd gear! Can't wait to hit up some mud. Only issue was the wiring was too short to reach the waterproof box. Just gotta figure something else out for the waterproofing. |

looks awesome all the way through your build, have you found a way to put the interior back in with the new tranny?
