Well here's what you guys missed. I got all the parts and immediately started assembling everything. It went together pretty well but I realized even before I got the parts a lot needed to change to I have already made a ton of changes to the front end and will have new parts next week, but here's how it all looks for now.

I also got the flares mounted on the body, They fit perfectly I was so happy! I sourced the smallest socket head screws I could find and I think they really pull of the scale look.

Got the rear end all put together too, I have to adjust the wheel base for the body so the links had to be shortened.

45 degrees of steering angle

What's going to be the final material for your front suspension pieces?

WOW! That is sweet! Truly inspirational.

The rotors and shocks really pull the realism into this. Are you going for aluminum for the final products? That would send it over the top for sure.

Just wow! The level of engineering, thought and execution on this rig is amazing. It's looking awesome in the update photos above. Cannot wait to see your finished product!

One thing I'm a little confused about. In one of the pics above, you show the 45deg turn angle but there does not appear to be 90deg of movement available in the upper rod end(ball joint). Does the rod end rotate in the upright?

Looks like it does. I am also wondering what the final plastics will be made of. Some areas are questionable for strength.

The upper spindle rodend does rotate in the spindle. It was the best fix I could come up with to keep the realism and still get the steering angle. I've never seen it done because its unconventional, but I'm looking forward to see if it holds up. I've already gone through and made an lot of the parts beefier, I'm also concerned about the durability but since im just going to be crawling slowly on trails I think it should hold up fine. Good news is if something does break I can just go in and make it thicker in that area and print a new part!. There is also some new materials available on shape ways that I plan to use for the arms, they are carbon fiber based, when printed in the correct orientation can be extremely strong. The poly jet material that this current setup is printed out of is pretty brittle and weak, so if i start testing with this and things are holding up, I will know the final version will be much stronger.

For those of you that don't know, these parts are printed up on a printer my brother has available at work. I'm only using this brittle material because its free to me so it makes all this a lot easier to make revisions.

I could only see the cf based stuff being used for a rig thats going to get beat on pretty hard. But even then, the regular shapeways nylon works really well as long as nothing is thinner than 2mm.

My main concern is your upper arms and the mount at the chassis.

Yep durability is definitely a concern, that's why you make prototypes and find the weak points.

I’m looking forward to seeing some trail damage! It’s all part of the fun.

Looks great!

This looks similar to the project I had in my head. You beat me to it. Although mine is still considerably different.

Which printer are you using?
