In preparation for the 2013 season I have performed the XR10 mod on this rig. The amount of room I have to work with now compared to what I had before the modification is great! My at-the-axle suspension mounting points have been moved out and the front uppers are now ran straight instead of triangulated. The servo has been moved to the center while the RCBro 600mAh 3s has been re-located behind the servo above the drive-line. The rear Mayhems were also swapped out for some HPI 5-Stars to lighten things up.

old and gone:
SDS Customz Super 300s w/locker
VP AX10 Zero Ackerman knuckles
No-name C hubs
Steel front Beef Tubes
Axial AX10 Aluminum Lockouts
Axial AX10 rear straight axles

new and installed:
Creation Fab Premium Delrin Tubes front and rear
Axial XR10 Universals and rear straight axles
Vanquish Products XR10 Knuckles
Vanquish Products XR10 C Hubs
Stainless Steel tierod
Axial XR10 plastic Lockouts
Highland Crawler lockers front and rear
HPI 5-Star Wheels #3031 (trimmed to 1" and epoxied hexes)

After stretching the track width out with the XR10 mod I went into my dungeon filled with Mayhem hubs and hoops and came up with the exact same track width that I had before the axle modification.

front track width: 10.5" ~ Mayhem Evo .75 with #1 .180 hubs, shaved Rover, CI 5.5 Soft outer and closed cell inners = 6.5oz
rear track width: 10.2" ~ HPI #3031 1" with epoxied axial hexes, shaved Rover, CI 5.5 Medium outer and closed cell inners = 4oz

Looks great Ashton! Have you driven it at the new weight?

I'm in the process of shedding weight off my 2.2s as well.

Yes I have. It was like driving a new rig. The wider shock mounting and less scrub make things much smoother on the rocks and the loss of weight just makes the rig easier to drive. Having more steering helps too.

Yeah the steering is the key to these rigs without dig. Reverse, reverse, reverse sucks .

Man, thanks for not doing these mods before Nats Ashton!

Really nice mods! You confident that those HPI wheels will hold up or are you just experimenting?

I am confident in the HPIs as I have been beating on them with my berg for quite a while. The only thing that I have to tend to is the epoxy. It will crack up after a bad bind but I have never had a hex slip. I usually just chip the old stuff off and apply new goo after a good beating.

I'm glad that I found this now but my rear HC locker is shot to hell. I guess I'll have to add some of the new VP lockers to the wishlist.

In the meantime I'm running a bit of nostalgia in the rear axle. Can anyone identify this locker?

Not sure if this is the same guy but it's a Freak Stuff. This locker has been on in 3 different rigs since 2008 and it's showing just a little bit of wear. The slight slop is pretty nice as well compared to other brands.

YUP Thats a Haunt's locker...sweeeeeet! Thats some vintage stuff right there. I have the exact same one in the back of my sporty right now . It along with the strc straight axles have been in my rear axle since 2008 nats in Moab!! I have never taken the axle apart since then!!!

Haunts is/was a club member here in jerz and a good buddy. It's cool to still see some of his parts doing work!
