I'm curious how the trans mount is going to affect your bias and the rig in general. At first glance you'd think all the weight is forward. But, of course, the weight is still somewhat centered since the heaviest part is the motor, now that you've made such a sweet lightweight trans. With it bolted only at the front, and the motor hanging off that mount, do you think it will act like a lever and push down on the back of the chassis? It's not like a skid mounted trans where there's little leverage, just weight distribution. Could that lever then be beneficial? I'm no mathemagician, so I have no idea. Probably crazy talk, just fascinated by this build in general. Great job. |

A lot of people might disagree with me but I have always thought the weight is where the weight is,... meaning, even though my trans is hung off the front/top cross braces, I dont think my COG is higher and more forward than if I were to mount it in the same exact place but to the skid. Its kinda like hanging your battery off the front axle vs. on top of your links. If it does change things, I dont think its much at all. Having said that, my battery and elec will hang off my front axle but only because I dont like anything touching my shocks or links. Thanks! I just hope I enjoy the car as much as the build.

Motor is on the way... Conflux .020 Can CB20 Skewed Cobalt magnets Sagami Endbell w/ standups 25t Type GT Armature Ground, Polished, Dyed Epoxy Balanced I didn't bother with a lot of the lightweight stuff, since the cobalts defeat the purpose of lightweight. However, I went with a lower turn armature, as the Cobalts can bring down RPM, so I countered that with the 25t. I really wanna break those driveshafts too!:P Later EddieO |

The speed of the 25t and the torque of the CB20 magnets is going to be awesome! I feel bad for the people who have never been able to experience the CB20 magnets. They are truly ground breaking. |

Hmmm, Erik builds a custom ultra-lite transmission and Eddie doesn't "bother with the lightweight stuff" on the motor. So did you guys talk? |

We did... The cb20 magnets weigh a lot... Like 20g per magnet more a lot. So even in a fully decked conflux, which would normally tip the scales around 150g or so.....we are still talking 190g motor, which is heavier than a stock Sagami. While the conflux can is better regardless of weight, the endbell stuff does nothing but save about 9g...the .020 conflux can leaks more flux, so the rpm goes up... Later EddieO |

As you already know, everybody has different tastes, likes and needs. For me, I cannot drive a car that does not have great startup, lots of torque and smooth. If I dont have those things, I concentrate more on driving the car rather than where to drive the car, if that makes sense. I think of it this way, I am about the same weight as stock but I have a super bad ass motor and great/smooth running car. To me, thats a huge win.

I'm with you E. Just give me maximum motor perfomance regardless of weight and I'll shave the weight off elseware. You can make an eight cylinder motor really light, it'll just be a four banger. J |

This was my philosophy for the motors im putting in berg. I want v12 power in that light weight Ferrari. Motor weight is worth it if your getting quality power!

I am dealing with the shocks and suspension trying to get everything right where I want it. I wanted to share a really simple trick that a friend shared with me. If you have bought a pack of Mini-T springs you know that you get 3 different spring rates. This could be good if you want different rates front to rear but it isnt ideal if you want 2 sets of the same springs without buying multiple packs. So, if youre just looking to save a couple of bucks in hard times or you want a custom spring, this mod is for you. In my case, I wanted the pinks for the front but I was finding out really quick that reds were too stiff and I didnt want a spring quite as soft as a pink for the rears. You can take a scale, set it to grams and then push the spring right to the point where it is fully compressed but not so compressed that its using the weight of your pressure on the scale. This isnt too critical as long as youre consistent. Take a dremel with such a grinding stone and start grinding. Try to be consistent and take out equal amounts from the entire spring. You can stop whenever you feel like and you can check your progress on the scale. If I remember right, a red spring measured about 750g to full compression and I think a pink was 380g. Last time I looked at Losi's spring rates for both springs those measurements were really close to what they advertise. This has been really nice for testing sake. I had always wanted a spring slightly lighter than a pink on my Berg and that was easily done. Now I am able to have a slightly lighter than red spring on the rear. Here you can see my spring that is between a pink and red. I also have something way, way cool to help suspension tuning but it will have to wait until next week when I have the parts to sell in my hands. |

I got a present in the mail from http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/vendo...ng-orders.html I wanted a nice, painted body for this build, something I can actually be proud of while at a comp instead of my regular solid black bodies. LOL I went to David with not much of an idea and told him to run with it. I couldnt be more pleased with what showed up at my door. Thanks again mang! He implemented a "ghost" crown which is perfect!
