Lets talk some shock!

Why do I love the Big bores?
  • They come in multiple lengths
  • There are multiple ways to get specific lengths by using a cap mod or stock cap with a ball
  • Super smooth
  • When lathed down, they are not much heavier than a plastic SCX, lighter than an AL SCX
  • Smaller diameter than an SCX
  • You can buy parts probably at any hobby shop around the world
  • NO LEAKING
  • MIP bypass pistons are available. If youre not running these, you are missing the boat. One of my favorite mods!

Why I dislike the Big bore.
  • The lack of pre loading sucks.

Pre loading a Big bore has always been the Achilles heel of the Big bore, until now!

I cant tell you how excited I am about these. The difference these make for a Big bore shock is amazing!

When I was setting this car up, I insisted on a cap mod which was partly making the car too tall along with the stiff springs. Even after I ground out the stiff springs to approx a Mini-T pink spring, it was still too tall. The real problem was the pre load. Now, with these cups, the ride height sits much lower ALL THE TIME.

I need to find the picture.....

If I remember right, you can get them down to 11g with springs? It will obviously change things on the length of shock, spring cups, cap mod etc,.

Here is a copy/paste of what I just put into the vendors section. I dont know how hard it is to grasp the concept without having these in your hands.

Here are some pictures of how the Big bore works with the Mini T springs.

All shocks are shown unlimited and in stock form. Keep in mind that you will most likely be limiting the longer shocks. Shocks also have the rod end on the shaft twisted on right until the threads are gone. You can manipulate the amount of preload (and length) by turning the rod on more or less.

4" shock with stock spring cup = no preload

4" shock with Dlux spring cup = - .310" preload

3.75 shock with stock spring cup = .060 pre load

3.75 shock with Dlux spring cup = - .220 pre load

3.5 shock with stock spring cup = .210 pre load

3.5 shock with Dlux spring cup = - .075 pre load

Here is a picture that will have the added shims so you can dial in exactly how much pre load you like.

Great idea Erik! It's awesome to see mods/hopups still coming out for some of my favorite parts.

Those new spring cups look nice and familiar. So much innovation in one rig is inspiring. I'm going to wrench on my super right now.

Chassis works as predicted.

It just flat out works
It sidehills like none other

Seriously though, it takes me a long time to tweak and tune from scratch to get a car right where I want it. I am still figuring stuff out and moving it around. I have some other parts that threw a serious twist into the game so I am working through that now.
