Fender wheel wells. I've started to make second set of wheel wells. First thing to do was to layout back plate for the wells. This is the material I'm using. First hole to do was the top shock mount hole. I then attached the shock hoop to the plate. When making back plate for the first time you need to figure out the size you need based on your body's fenders. Then I traced the frame unto the plate for cutting to size. You can score styrene curves and I snapped them with pliers close to the scores you make. My plate could have been a little longer but the way I mounted my batteries on the rails I did go as long as I could. I'll fill the gap another way to keep dirt of the batteries. I mounted the shock hoop to the plate and set it on the frame rails. I then adjust the plate and made sure the hoop was in the right position. I did this by shining a light behind the plate to see the hoop screw holes. Once I drilled the last hole I did a test fit. Then I made the second plate for the front and transferred the hole layout to it. |

I'm thinking of making these wheel wells a little bit different. Instead of making the wheel wells in sections, I'm going to try and bend the styrene and make it out of one length. |

Looking good. That's how I did mine, I cut the back piece to the shape I wanted it to be and bent/glued around that. I used a little heat in certain spots and relief cuts in others. |

This is the first go at making wheel well out of one length. It's been glued about one third of the way. Then added a brace to keep it from flexing out. From this point it needs to set for at leat 24 hrs to reach a good bond. Should be able to finish gluing in the next couple of days. |

I got the first one done with the one piece wheel well. Make a note to self "heat and bend plastic to shape first. You can see in the first pic the plastic flares out. So what I did was to re-clamp the piece at the top and took the wife's blow dryer and heated it up and then cooled it down. It got most of the flare out. You see the top well flares some compared to the bottom which is straight. It's acceptable. Once painted black it won't stand out. |

If you look closely you can see the gap between the fender flare inside brace and the wheel well. It allows the body to go on easy. So I went to local tire shop and got an old inner tube to cut up and use as a filler in the gap. I tried gluing the inner tube to styrene. Plastic and shoe goo did not hold well. Crazy glue "hobby shop" grade and I used thick type, worked. |

I just read through your entire build and must say, the level of patience and skill is AMAZING. Keep up the good work.

| Re: Dual Dingo build thread-My first build thread Thank you. With arthritus and a bad back and working fulltime, my time is limited at the work bench. I had to learn to be patience. So I do get a lot of Brain time to thank something's through.

Since I found that crazy glue will hold the rubber from the inner tube to styrene, I'm moving ahead with filling the space with this. Here's how it will look once it's glued permanetly. |

Finshed cutting inner tube up into the strips and got them glued into place. Front and rears are done now. The body is so much easier to put on since the rubbing was the problem, is just moves the rubber spacer out of the way. Last edited by juswin24; 11-10-2012 at 08:04 PM. |

Thank you! I'm hoping to paint them tomorrow. They shouldn't stand out like a sore thumb like they do now.

Got the first set of body mounts and wheel wells painted and mounted on Dingo 2. Really looks good if I may say so! This picture is after 2 coats out 4 that I put on. |
