That's called vapor lock.

It's possible. It's not likely unless everything is really hot... If you have fuel lines running across your exhaust manifold, then yeah...

the fuel pump in the is on the side of the cylinder head and runs off the cam cause its mechanical and was getting hot enough that you can not leave your hand on and it sounded like the gas was boiling in the fuel pump

now it runs cool to the touch and there is no noise, no longer boiling

cause the old thermostat was stuck open a little, replaced it with a new one

and I had way to much coolant to water ratio in the radiator, almost all coolant

that the boiling was almost maxed out on the scale of the Presstone radiator checker thing

not sure the name of it, but its shows your boiling point of your radiator on side

and your radiator freezing point on there side

and now its more in the middle and closer to 50/50 ratio

cause it 80/20 before I Changed coolant

ok I just drove the truck

at 45 to 50 miles an hour around my neighborhood

for 15 to 20 minutes

and after driving the truck, you can touch the fuel pump its cool to the touch and the top of the radiator is no as hot either

and it did not run rough or sputter or back fire

and it had power and didn't fade then start running rough and then would sputter and backfire

I did not do a high speed run

so that tells me it was running way too hot

and then the carb would cut out

it ran fine today

now I'm pissed off

I went to a 2 different muffler shops to get a estimate

on a price for a short piece of exhaust pipe and small muffler/ glass pack and maybe tack on a couple supports

and both places told me, its against a federal law to work on my truck and told me I had to replace the catalytic converter

Mark say that's bullshit cause he will put a bolt on exhaust pipe with a muffler/ glass pack

I want to move the end of exhaust from under the cab

to back under the bed and call it good with no tail pipe

just need to pick the right sized muffler/glass pack

so that it sounds good

and not like the assholes that have watched the Fast an Furious one too many times

you can hear from blocks away

you think it something bad ass

turn out to be lowered piece of shit , Honda or Toyota

That's not bullshit, that's the law. If your buddy wants to break the law, it's his choice. They cannot remove federally mandated smog equipment.

Clamps, pipe, hangers, muffler. No need to take it to a shop. The truck is probably only worth what they will charge. But you wont. 8 pages of this

Not only can they not remove it...but they can't work on the exhaust unless it is repaired back to legal operation.....i worked at and ran an exhaust shop...no owner or employee wants to go to jail for you. Period. It IS the law no matter what you or your mechanic buddy think.

It's a 10,000 doallar fine for not having a cat here if you get caught.

By this stage i would have had a set of sidedraft mikunis on there,
some extractors and a warm cam. Anyway

Motors dont respond well to just having random things done to them,
especially old motors. Sounds like you need to find a mechanic that actually knows what
he's doing to go through it. Driving it and running it when its going like shit can
damage other parts of the motor.

If youre that keen on getting the engine running do it properly. Get the carb rebuilt,
to begin with if you know it's leaking.

What year is it? If it's older than 1995, then tell them to just do it. If it's newer... You might need to slip them a few bills for them to look the other way while doing the work.

ok its totally my fault

I cut the catalytic converter off

after is was suggested by a few people

and it was a good call

cause the converter has been melting and the melted crap plugged up the exhaust in the muffler

so just to show I'm not a total asshole and care a little about the world

but not the other assholes on the planet

and so I can sell the truck maybe

for 75 bucks and the ride I found this

at Parts Geek

its almost the same length as the one I cut

still going run a short piece of exhaust pipe and a small muffler

kind of like this Flow Master not the right one for my truck, but that's style I want up out of the way

I will need to talk to Mark and find the right muffler cause he has venders and gets good deals on parts sometimes

and going to clamp on every thing

cause if I ever need to replace the clutch

you got to drop the exhaust

and it been clamped

is the way to go

I found a better deal than Mark on the Converter his lowest price was higher than what I paid and the shipping took longer

cause his are factory replacement and twice or more than what I paid

the cat I bought is direct replacement

for year of truck and engine displacement

and now I'm legal

Jonny law can go write parking tickets

and kiss my ass

Ask you mechanic what needs to be done so that you don't damage you cat or muffler again. I know that the cat needs a stokimetric air to fuel ratio to keep it from melting.

I 'm not sure if it melted, but you can barely see thru the cat

the one guy at the third muffler shop that I called

he said it sounded like to him it started deteriorate and plugged up the muffler

cause I dropped 2 small stones in the muffler and they rattled around

and came out covered in soot

then if you flip the muffler and do it again the rocks don't come out and have stopped rattling, and I added more rocks they still never came out

so the muffler was plugged also

cause my engine temp has dropped since I cut the cat and muffler

I use to work for waukesha and another company that serviced installed and set industrial engines and set up emissions systems on industrial engines. So im and expert (has been I know). to keep you new exaust parts healthy you need the have a proper mix of air and fuel. The stuff you removed probably had an mass air sensor oxygen sensor etc those mix the air and fuel to run you truck and also burn off in the cat. Without those items your truck will need to be running very smooth to keep them happy. Older vehicles have had cats without alot of electronics to make them work. So asking your mechanic to help you should insure you don't have to buy the parts again. If only it was the 80's you could go to a muffler shop or mechanic and have them install a red tube called a "diagnostic tube " and that would let you slide if you got pulled over, but not for inspection. I've got a truck without all the emissions stuff also it stays at the deer leese.
