Once you breach that threshold the difficulty becomes Advertisers only want positive feedback/discussion on the forum. Admin then must decide if heavily moderated boards are what they want(with advertisers) or do that want open discussion. Boards literally exploded when the reach this point and are not managed correctly. I have been on many boards that fracture into several smaller boards as groups of people defect because they where stifled or feel they have been treated unfairly. An example of this is the Chicom wheels here on rcc. There was a great thread going in the wheels/tires section, it got moved. I don't know why but the grape vine said that it was do to a vendor protesting the discussion. The mods or whom ever handled it well enough that it didn't cause a large fuss. However imagine if it was axial, and they wanted any negative comment about their products moderated. The forum losses credibility, people get pissed and traffic suffers. There is a very fine line that must be walked. Think traxxas forum. What it should be jamming with is small cottage companies, ones who the small traffic here would make up a larger portion of their customer base, and they would be more involved. Not to single anyone out, but companies like SSD and HH are actively doing this at RCC. New products, tech support threads, customer service or just plain old adding content. | |
