I've probably checked your site 50 times this week hoping to find them in stock.

Had my first carnage on the servo. A little over 2 hours of creek crawling and the bearing on the output self-destructed and sent little balls into the gears. Amazingly, the gears don't seem to bad but it needs a new bearing. Holmes has been contacted. Still had a blast and can't wait to get this torque monster back in the Wraith.

The biggest issue I had with it was it did not know where center was, Sometimes it was here, Sometimes it was a there.

Is the $99 500oz servo too good to be true?

I have put a beating on my servo with no issues. Ran it two weekends ago at Motorama through all kinds of mud, water and slop put it in binds and it still is going strong. It is on an 11lb scaler and works great.

If I were building another rig, I'd put the Holmes servo in that one as well.

From what I'm reading, it sounds like 5 different issues.
Bad bearing, broke pin, chipped tooth, etc..
Same problems I've had with Hitec's.. Now please, don't get me wrong, you can read my Hitec "praises" anywhere on RCC..
I'm just saying, Everything has there set backs. Specially something new..

Just look at Hyundai.. Once a cheap "throw away" car. Get your miles out of it and when issues start popping up, toss it..
Now look at em! They are some pretty good looking and reliable cars..

Best part, HH stands behind there shiz! JRH and company, might be a little backed up in outer space, or aerospace, but when they touch back down.
Emails will get sent and servos will be dealt with..

Hitec has set a very high bar for customer support. We tear them up, send them in, they fix and return them, no questions asked (mostly).

As these HH servos get very numerous in the field, failures will occur and we'll just have to see how they're dealt with. I'm sure intentions are very high and current HH reputation is stellar. But we'll have to see how reality matches up in the near future. Seems a tough business to me.

I'll be testing this all summer!! I'm sure it'll hold up better than the 400, if it does, it will clearly be "the" servo!

Sadly that is not the case, While its a fine servo, The issues I'm having ( never wanting to center, Not having a clue WHERE center even is ).. Then seeing others with broken gears.. Its clear more work is needed.

7950 still outperforms by a wide margin.

Not ever getting a reply about my broken one either really puts me off. I love Holmes Hobbies and all, But this will likely be the last servo I buy from them.

Mines been kicking ass! Took a 1st in 2.2s, yesterday with it.

I'm a long time 7950-7980 user. I don't see a wide margin of performance, if any..

Like any servo from any company, there are always a few duds. Even Hitec..

As for the rest.. :(

That's a bummer, they really took care of me with my 400. I wonder if you got a dud? The few other reports seem to be positive, after the experience with the 400, I wouldn't be surprised if they ironed out some of the wrinkles. Once this line matures I believe it will be incredible! Every other thing I have gotten from them really has been top quality, absolutely perfect, really! It's unfortunate that your experience with their service has been unsatisfactory, they have a great reputation with just about every other customer I have heard about. I wonder if there is more to the story...?
