Well after a 12+ hour workday, driving an hour home in raining rush hour, stopping at Grandma's to bring her groceries I'm finally home to unbox this Jewel of a servo.
Everything was well packaged and he even used the funny pages as packing material haha. I appreciate how quickly John got this shipped out, that's not something typical from anyone making parts for any of my hobbies anymore.
It's almost a shame to hide this in the body of a scaler that probably doesn't need this much, but I never use my MOA anymore so the HS-7950TH will do fine for that. I can't wait until I have some time to get this installed in my SCX.

Only"fault" I find is the case is not black, I would have most everything in black!

Color be damned I'd be happier if it was shorter. Dimensionally the V4 is the largest servo I have which is handy for making servo mounts since nobody is going to be using anything larger but also a pain in the ass since it is the largest servo anyone is likely to be mounting.

Post #403 shows that this one is indeed a bit shorter than the 420:

A millimeter shorter than the 420 doesn't make it small.

100+ LESS oz's of torque and bigger in every dimension than a 2290.

I'm not dogging the promodler since I like the servo, I just wish it was shorter.

But much smaller in one very important dimension - price

I got mine installed this evening and the smaller size is barely noticeable compared to the 420. Inside there are a few nice touches - a taller brass insert on the center pin and another for the last pin, silicone or some type of sealant against the wire grommet, and no more brass in the gearset. I don't recall if the 420 had done away with ALL the brass gears but there are none in this one.

One little surprise I noticed is that it's no longer totally silent. Under heavy load there is a very slight buzz. Personally, I like this because it helps me set the endpoints. It's still orders of magnitude quieter than the HiTecs and imperceptible out on the trail.

420 had the bottom gear in brass I think.
How can Savox make that so tiny ?

How much are you getting paid to push this servo? I noticed you even switch your avatar to Power 470 on the Traxxas forums.

You really are an ass, But I paid 114.31 inc FL sales tax and shipping for the privilege of having one. As I understand you have an engineering background.

Read the story, see the revisions, LOOK at the pictures. THEN go google Fu anywhere in the world and find some disgruntled users, or failures. When you do, THEN I WILL STFU. UNTIL then Im talking about it.

I've even seen WT approve of it, albeit he wants and needs (and pays) for 600 oz

So in closing why don't you get one and prove me wrong ?

OH as far as the 470 logo, I photoshopped that. Its a quicky and not even a vector. I thought it looked good as an avatar, thanks for noticing!

I was 100% kidding. Sheesh!

I'm on the train. One of these will be my next servo. I love the machined case. I even recommended it on another forum today based on this thread.

I recommended one on the Traxxas E-Revo forum for a member that had a garbage 2080 plastic gear go out on him inside his 1/16th Mini Revo VXL. I recommended one of Mr. Johns ProModeler's wide range of micro servos that certainly look like they are better then others, especially for the price.

So far the 470 has been "puttin' in work", but I will add that she is a power whore, pumping it up to 8v on the X's internal bec dropped some run time.I dont care, I love it! Very small compromise for the upgrade that she is.

If WhiteTrash is approving the ProModeler and even recommending it in the cheap servo hotness thread to say "Just get a 420 v4 and be done",than its gotta be a quality servo.

That Savox does put out some good torque. They took a lot of time to put that amount of power into that small case, but thats probably why you are going to pay a lot of dough for it. I think the is 470 perfect and the price cannot be beaten for what you KNOW you are getting. What other servo company goes that much into detail about their servos and even takes pictures of its guts? I can't see my self paying that much for that squeaky loud Savox even if it 600oz.

Side note about the avatar image.

John loved it and did a better version of it.

Can't wait to order up a set of those decals and have them shipped with my next 470 purchase. Hope he'll have servos in stock when the time comes, I'm sure he will.
Just very happy for him that he has recovered from his injuries and is on to a big bussiness venture for a Gov't contractor.
