Does this count as a cleared gate? Or penanty for winch line touching?
It would be considered a gate penalty since no part of the vehicle is allowed to touch the gate. And since the winch is attached to the vehicle, it is part of it. But also know, it is still up to the local club to allow or disallow, however at a national event it would be a gate penalty.

That should be a gate penalty everywhere.

The winch, line, hook and anything else on the vehicle is part of the vehicle and therefore a gate penalty should be given if a gate is touched.

Edit: Damn, didn't see the last page.

It should, but you know we have seen some clubs run a more lax set of rules.

here is a technical question. If i run a open diff rear and make cutting brakes is that allowed? in the 1:1 world it is common.

Particular class you are thinking about?

Regardless it will probably have to be discussed in the committee. I could potentially see it being allowed in class 3, but no way it will be allowed in class 1 or 2.

I feel the same here, possible Class 3. May need to discuss it a bit as Turtle said.

In my opinion, I just don't see using a open diff and still have the same performance as a locked diff, irregardless of having cutting brakes. 1:1 you would be using an air locker or at the very least a limited slip diff. Scale would need some ultra heavy oil to be close to a limited slip. In the same token, I am very interested on how you plan to do it.

Would this count as a bed metal roll bar? This is my class 1 rig btw.

so the consensus is if your rig functions any different than a stock scx10 it goes class 3?
seen many 1:1 street driven rigs with cutting brakes, thats why i ask.

as far as how. venom axles have the lockable diffs.

simple way: servo mounted on axle rod going to each hex with a disk. rod pushes on disk with a rubber piece for friction. I don't think it would be too hard. way more scale than a dig unit.

Id be fine with class 3 as that is what i would run but i do feel it should be legal in 2.

One of the things we have to do is regulate the rules so people can't take advantage of them. I would love to have all these things (like dig, cutting brakes etc) available to all the classes but there has to be a line we draw to make things fair. It reminds me of that saying...."if you give an inch they'll take a mile". We deal with that daily. My best advice is to take the rules for each class as they are currently written, build trucks to meet those rules and have fun....or build something cool and different (like a Class 2 with dig and cutting brakes) but dont use those things during a SORRCA competition. Good luck and I'd love to see your cutting brake set up when it's finished!

Hey James, is that the only bar? No internal tube in the cab? As it is, yes. But if you completed the tube work in the cab you would get inner cage one row at -3 instead of -2. Food for thought.

That is not necessarily the case, it is that type of mod falls in the "dig" area because it would be a performance enhancement only allowed in C3. And for the record, there is no reason that you couldn't run a "stock" SCX10 in C3. I know that cutting brakes would/could be used on a street driven 1:1 truck, however, allowing such a mod in C2 would open up too many other mods that where left for C3 specs only. And that is not the intention of the class. I'm very sure this question will be discussed for 2015.

Yep, I forgot about those.

simple way: servo mounted on axle rod going to each hex with a disk. rod pushes on disk with a rubber piece for friction. I don't think it would be too hard. way more scale than a dig unit.

Sounds interesting.

Dig is available and used in 1:1.

I don't see those types of changes being implemented in C2, like stated above, that's not the intention of the class.

Keep thinking outside the box! That's what drives this ever evolving hobby and keeps SORRCA on it's toes!

Beat me to it Tim....LOL!

Just food for thought for next year, think we could up the light bar points to -2 for metal and -1 for plastic? If you look at my rig for example, my lightbar counts for squat even though the mounts are metal and it's held on with scale hardware

I know it's easy to get points already and to be fair this is already a 50 point plus rig but any options we have to avoid scale accessories are a good thing in my book.

In a nut shell - 1:1 wise you are correct but scale rc wise it would cause courses to evolve to the same point class3 is at now.
This debate has been had more than a few times over and both sides have great points. It's not an easy task keeping the rules level and fair for all.

Would this be a bumper with a stinger?

I'm going to guess no, as it's no wider than the frame rails. Probably just points for the stinger.

It is measurably wider than the frame rails, it bolts to the outside of them.

I posted this over in the wrong thread like a moron, so now i'll ask here where it belongs...!

Hey guys: I am prepping my body for the ECSC and had not been there last year wanted to pose a question... I saw in the rules (for Class 1) it states no trimming of the fenders, although, I see many fellers trimming the rear corner, and trimming off the front valence altogether. Is this legal in class 1? I wasn't sure if it was referring to trimming the radius of the fender, or any part whatsoever...

And, on another rule: Are batteries allowed in truck boxes like in my pic, or do they have to be strapped to the chassis?

Thanks fellers, and can't wait to meet you all in a few weeks...

Do you know the total width of the bumper?

Its the only metal in the cab. I think I'll add a metal tube over the dash to grab that extra point. As it stands I think I'm at -53 points if not -54. I was told that max scale points is 60 for class 1, so I need to take another look at the rig to see if I'm maxed out and just dont know it. Thanks for the info Shon.
