currently working on some steel skids that are hinged and allow easy battery access. i scrapped a couple previous attempts and am now pretty happy with what i got going on. i got room for full interior with 2 full willy figures, and nice and low lipo placement between the floor and boatsides with the option to run a couple 2200's for longer runtimes, although i think ill just use one of the spots for my elecs. still got more tubework to do and figure out some stupid simple latch design, but im digging it. | |

also finished up the front with a removeable winchline tube and 1" lightbar mount/fairlead. locks into place with a ziptie and makes switching out the servo or trans mucho easier. |

so after doing such a nice job on bending the skids and getting them to fit super nice the last thing i wanted was to try and braze or drill some hack way of locking them down. i also wanted just as importantly to be able to swap a lipo super easy. im pretty happy with what i did. just bent up some 1/8 rod as little sliders that under a little tension clip into little hooks on frame behind the front shocks. push the little lever down and out with your thumb and the slider and skid hinge out seperately. i dont think they would ever manage to get opened up on thier own but its nothing a zip tie wouldnt keep from happening. i need to braze in a couple interior panel mounts for a hopefully simple and clean styrene interior with 2 willies figures. and then im thinking of pinching the rear of the cage so i can tuck the shock mounts in a little bit and clean up some. thanks. im super happy with the skids. ends up with the winch servo i lack length for 2 2200 packs, but ill just put my elecs or tools/parts in there. i have another rig that im gonna do the same thing to. and i might be full of it but i bet i could swap a battery in about 5ish seconds. with gloves on. ;) i went ahead and cut out some of the back and simplified it all. moved the upper shock mounts in and made little rails for the mounts. i got similar rail setups in a couple other rugs and it works pretty good for being able to move things around easy, especially height if you install them vertical. kind of like a shock key i guess, you can bolt the shocks right to the rails or use tamiya tlt and semi mounts for different setups. i usually use a washer or spacer between the nut and the rail to get a bit more bite on the rails. i planned on cutting the whole rear off and redoing it cleaner without the tig'd look, but i think ill save that effort for my next build and wrap this guy's tubework up with a spare tire mount and a couple interior panel nuts. then its interior and wiring, and the cake decorating. definitely happy that i went ahead and reworked the rear a little bit. gonna try to keep the interior real simple to just to get the minimum for an honest 3d interior and full driver and passenger points. |

took a few pics of those shock rail doohickies on some other trucks. by far my most used truck. 4 or 5 years of being beat on. dusty shelf queen that uses tlt mounts. when you aint got a drill press or even a workbench or vise you gotta be crafty. ;) |

finished the bob with a neat little bumper, today im starting work on the interior on the floor with my dog. still thinking about the swingout spare, gonna try and see if im smart enough to make a hinge (like car hood hinges) that will let the tire swing down in a cool way, either horizontal hanging off the back or vertical and resting on the ground. |

dunno if this is gonna work or not but i plan on mounting an scx knuckle to this tire carrier so that the tire will spin, and have an idea for a spring latch that will let it swing down. |

im sure somebody else has the record, but holy moly i went full retard on the spare tire carrier. it started simple and then i had an idea and just spitballed it. it works ok... the little spring rod needs a bumpstop in it to keep the bending section of the finger handle from catching on the brakeline sleeve when its closed. gonna make a little shelf behind the carrier that has a powertank and highlift and all that jazz, so you would pull down the tire to get to nonfunctional scale items. ;) got one more idea before im gonna call it good on a very complicated carrier. fingers crossed i dont **** it up! |

done. and i didnt **** it up. added an scx knuckle with bearings and and stub axle. so besides a cool spinning spare tire i have a couple spare bearings, a hex, and a hex pin. ;) couple more tabs here and there and im done brazing. i think. |
