Default No reverse

I have no reverse on my TorqueMaster BR XL configured to a JP Custom Havoc Bully, Radio is a Spektrum DX3R and all equipment and components are new out of the box.

Forward mode, steering mode and Punk Dig work fine. CCBEC input is wired to battery; output +/- leads to steering servo +/- leads, and signal lead is dead ended. The steering servo signal lead is hooked to the RX str signal port. ESC to RX throttle port, Punk Dig to RX Aux port.

Symptoms;
Forward mode ESC green light comes on and the motors turn.
Reverse mode ESC red light does not come on motors do not turn.
ESC programmed to default mode with 50% drag brake

What I did;
Calibrated the DX3R to ESC several times as per JRH instruction sheet several times.
Checked and rechecked wiring.
Flashed ESC and programmed with V1.02 and Bata V1.05 several times.
Checked rig and DXR3 batteries.
Played with different deadband and drag brake settings, and then put back the default settings with the 50% drag brake.

Is there away to check the signal output level of my DX3R when I push the trigger forward for reverse throttle?
What am I missing or doing wrong? This is my first build so I can use your help.

Go to the bottom in the menu screen and select moniter on your DX3.

Thanks for the help slowrockr!
Looks like I may have DX3R problems, monitor mode shows throttle at full fwd +1361 and full reverse at +0

you have to set it up. i had the same problem. its essentially a calibration for the controller. I forget how to do it but its in there. You have to tell it what full travel is.

Thanks Kurt,
I had to go into the DXR3 and reset the parameters, everything works fine now.

I'm just curious are these ESC PIC based?

Hope someone can help, I bought one 2nd hand been running it and seems damn good apart from one little thing that I'm sure is a software tweak I can do.
When throttling up slowly I get a little jump as it increases, ie 1-2-3-4-5-9-10-11 it's a little anoying as it's right at the bottom where I spend my time crawling.
It's running the latest beta FW.

Thanks

Not sure what brains we are using on the board currently, I would need to hack one apart and check.

Rikk, Have you tried setting up your radio to the controller yet? Throttle endpoints?

Mine did that when I updated it, so I went back to the original software. Then read the lipo cut off isn't correct with the old software so I re-updated it, and that little jump went away.

Cheers Eeepee, I tried resyncing with the TX and still the same I'll try redoing the FW.

edit. you sir are a diamond, all working now and also I couldn't understand why it was pretty much locked up with 10% brake/hold but now that's gone and it drifts to a halt so I can start playing with the settings properly

Had a play now everything seems to be working and have a couple more questions as I'm obviously not understanding what each option does and the interactions.

What I want is the truck to slow down fairly quickly when I let go of the throttle but not stand on it's nose, and when descending on a steep slope to creep down on it's own.

So, I would have thought
Brake - 40% (to give me the slow down from on throttle)
Passive Drag brake - 60% (to give me the creep down)

With the drag brake set to 10%, the brake does seem to work to slow the truck down but not terribly effectively, but as soon as I add some drag brake in BANG it's standing on it's nose.

Should those two work as I think above or am I missing something obvious?

Turn holmes Hold off if the drag is too strong. The drag/ hold is active at neutral. The standard brake is active when you apply reverse.

Ahh right, so being on throttle then just letting go you drop straight into drag, but if you give it a little reverse you'll get brake?

Is the brake only on for the first say 10% of reverse, then if you go over that it goes into proper reverse?

I left off the hold, bit strong for my scaler

One thing I'd love to see is a way to turn the drag brake on/off from the TX or even better switch between two settings 60%-10% etc.

There is an update to the Hold brake and a tweak to the voltage cutoffs. The hold brake was a bit too strong and I had a few customers ruin their motors or ESC at 100% with 35t motors.
