Alibre Design Xpress it's free. I really tried it yet. But you really can't beat free. I have used 3D programs in the past but it was more towards Commerical Art. Strata 3D, Bryce 3D, RayDreams and Maya 3D. I have never used a CAD program before. Are they harder or easier then the above programs?
i downloaded it just now and i havnt figured it out yet all i wanna do is make my chassis to design a working 4 link

Good luck. I've found it to be very limited in it's usefulness since you can't make alot of the parts it offers and you can't export to anything useful, IMO.

Man, there is some great work here! I agree that a communal 'pile' of 3D crawler parts with a common extension would be just about the coolest thing ever. We could really make some progress in this hobby with such tools. I've used 3DStudio Max, Maya, and Softimage quite a bit, but due to my schedule I pretty much only do occasional 3DSmax stuff for the intro's to my Dorkstar movies...

This is inspiring! Maybe I'll try to build a rock or a snorkle or something! :p

I have a few models at work if anyone wants to shoot me an email for a copy. Most of them are right on dimension wise. The only one that has some problems are the clod axles. It was a PITA trying to get that mold dimensioned and having the hole locations right. It's close though.

Here is what I have at work

Clod Axle
Maxx shock
Conduit washers for beadlock mod (with my hole pattern drawn in for 2-56 hardware)
HPI split 5 wheel
servo
Traxxas front wheel narrowed with conduit washer beadlocks and hardware

I just need emails

Cool.. What file extensions can you export? I can import:

.3ds, .prj, .dwg, .dxf, .fbx, .ige, .igs, .ai, .ls, .vw, .lp, . shp, .stl, .wrl, . wrz, .xml.

AutoCADs standard extrension is .dwg and since its an old autocad version my files will open in anything. Its just trying to get the newer extensions to open in my old version seems impossible.

I let my Solidworks expire since it was 8 years old, I am using alibre express for now.

Neo, I can open those tlt dxf's but all I see is a blank workspace.

It is probably just my inexperience with alibre, but if you get a chance can you export to dwg?

Destroyer, are you talking about the files I sent you? They should have worked. They were R14 .dwg files which work with basically everything.....

I don't know what happened to the files, I get the same error. But the two solidworks axle files work.

I started bending up the real mini RockHer, and relized that all the bends don't work well on a small scale. Maybe if I had a bender with a smaller radius, but I don't.

So, without further ado, the new Crimson Rain

Redrew most of Crimson Rains chassis, so every part is hopefully identical to the real life version. Had to change quite a few things so the pieces could be made with my bender.

How does the FJ grill look?

hey guys i was wondering since i am a newbie, i took drafting in high school but that was a long time ago, what would be the best software for me to purchase to do some modeling. i would like to be able to set it up so i could give it to a job shop for machining if i saw fit. i would also like to be able to run it through a flex cycle with the program to look for problems....
can i get both in one package or do i need seperate programs???
