Hey Dean, Great pics, you guys have some great rock to crawl on!
I'm trying to maybe coordinate a meet with you guys when you come across the pond. Even if it is just to shake hands and say hi. We are going to start our trip from the Turlock/Modesto area of California around the weekend of October 5th (50th class reunion). From there we will be headed north east for a cross country road trip for 6-8 weeks. But if we could arrange things to meet we could change things up a little. You can PM me or email at ledspots@yahoo.com.

The busted grill had to go today! and while I was at it I removed the rear sway bar.

I guess I have been and advocate for the rear sway bar and have run one now for quite a while, but at the last comp I felt the rear sway bar may have hindered performance in one or two places so I will run it for a while without the rear bar and see how it goes.
The rear shocks are outboarded and I run the shocks without the little spring now so it has bugger all torque twist with the springs like this without a sway bar anyway.

Chassis looks less busy without the sway bar!

finally fitted the HW 1080 ESC today, no better way to break it in than a 2 hour trail drive!

I just used someone else's settings from the HW 1080 thread in the electronics section as a starting point. pretty damn good so far!

The adjustable drag brake rate is great, I got it turned down low so it comes on smoothly.

Gave it a whirl on 3S, is it just me or does the HW1080 make it go faster? It seems to have a better top speed over the RTR ESC!

COMP DAY!

This comp was held at a place not far from me that they call "Wolfden"

There were a couple more trucks present that we not in the pic, was a bit of a Honcho fest!

This was my first comp after removing the rear swaybar and fitting the HW1080 ESC. Came home in 2nd place, beaten by a tricked out Honcho with massive steering and OD/UD and ........ a rear sway bar LOL!

His sway bar was very soft and the bar itself was made from the little flat metal strip from a car windscreen wiper blade.

Last minute addition to my boys Bronco, he wanted a spare tyre carrier on the rear, slapped something together for him the night before, looks a bit funny....

Yesterdays comp was the last appearance for my black wheels. Time to change things up a little, so I de anodized the wheels and they are now sporting the raw silver alloy look!

To de anodize my wheels I just followed this Youtube vid, a bottle of caustic soda was about $4.70 at Bunnings Hardware store.

Not bad 2nd place with first time without your rear swaybar. Genius using windshield wiper tiny metal strip as swaybar!

Spare tire setup looks pretty good.

Thanks Natedog, do you think the raw alloy will be ok? Or should I clear coat the wheels to stop corrosion or tarnishing?

Are new ‘raw’ silver alloy wheels and parts actually raw aluminium or silver anodised?

I'm pretty sure if you buy, for example, Vanquish silver wheels - they are silver anodized - not raw.

Yours look great stripped of color!

But they may tarnish, in time.

I don't feel like pulling the wheels apart again anytime soon, so I might just see how they go as is. I guess I could just mask up the tyres and spray clear coat over everything and leave them assembled!

The Honcho rear sway bar was housed in a brass tube that replaced the chassis rear cross member and was somehow attached between the rails, and the flat bar was inside this tube, sway bar arms ran forward to links connected to the axle. It was a neat installation, the arms were hard against the ends of the tube and you could not see the flat bar inside it. I guess the tube was a neat fit over the flat bar and it just floated inside the tube. I will take some detailed picks of it at next comp for those that are interested in such things!

I wouldn't worry about them tarnishing, they'll just end up matching the rest of your truck!

You've got the scale realism look down pat - your process seems to involve actually going out and "weathering" your parts, instead of using trickery to fake it!

I've had bare aluminum and they never tarnished. I don't think you will have to worry about it on an rc.

If they are good quality then they are usually anodized clear to protect the finish.

Great site I just found explaining anodizing!

I only say that because I know he occasionally runs out by the coastline, on the beach - salt in the air may contribute eventually...
