Today I started the cupboard doors for my wife, and also started the cage for the Bronco. Don't have a pic at the moment, but I bent two pieces of brake line that start on the floor under the dash, come up above the heads of the people, and run to the back of the truck, right before the tailgate, and will bolt to the frame back there. It was a challenge to bend both pieces the same, but they're fairly close. I also notched the dash for these pieces to come up through. Also, I ordered a couple action figures off eBay to ride in this thing. So a pro wrestler and wolverine are on their way... |

Here is the beginning of the cage. I also cut a couple cross pieces, but they're not attached yet. |

Thanks Adam. Man, I wish I could go in the garage for the entire day and just knock it out. I suppose by building the truck, I may also be building some patience...

Started working on welding the cage tonight. Why welding? Because I already have a welder It has been a little challenging, but I think it is going to work. Also, driver and passenger arrived the other day. |

I found the welding to be very clumsy. It worked, but required more grinding to clean up the joints when I was done. But maybe you have different wire on your welder that works better. My wire is for building 1:1 trailers. :-)

It works ok. I find it harder to weld thin metal (brake line, sheet metal) than thick stuff. Harder to get the balance between nice weld and burning through. I'll get it though. I did some more welding on it today. It's coming along. Four more joints tomorrow, then grind, then touch up weld if needed, then grind, then paint. No different than my experiences with patching rust on cars Weld, grind, repeat! I like learning about and practicing welding though, so it's all good. If I did not already have the welder, I would to with brazing for this type of work. |

Today I finished up welding and grinding the cage, and I just sprayed a coat of black Rustoleum on it. It's not the most beautiful thing, before paint, but it does seem strong: I also cut a couple pieces of wood to raise the seats 1/2": Here are the guys I got off eBay. They're each 6" tall, though the wrestler is a bigger looking dude than Wolverine. Wolverine could take 'im though |

You know what the best part of having a crawler is? Building it yourself. Good work, I think you're getting the hang of it. |

Thanks guys. The paint is dry on the cage and I think it looks good enough. I also painted the interior, and it's drying now. Getting closer to the truck being driveable again, which is good because the next come is on the 27th. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished work, when it's all back together. Also, I've been thinking about a cloth top, like a bikini top. | |

Got a lot done today, here are some pics: The interior wood painted and seats mounted: Plus roll cage and steering wheel: With body and driver: I was looking around for something to use as a steering wheel. I found this gear I took out of the rear end when I installed underdrive gears. I liked the size, and just thought it was kind of fun to use it as the steering wheel: Right now I'm in the middle of putting some clear liquid nails on the inside of the fender flares. Some of the tiny holes where the tiny bolts go through them have tore, so I wanted some reinforcement. The tires are going to rub a little, more so in the front, and I don't want the flares getting damaged. After that, I need to mount the electronics, do a bikini top, do sliders, then give it a test drive. Not sure if I'll do a rear bumper or not yet. |

NIce work. Have you seen Keyston RC forums. It's blowing up with everyone in a frantic rush to add scale points. I got Eli's Hummer sitting at -37 now. Where's this one fall in points wise?

I had not noticed, but I'm glad to hear that! Seems like the local scaler scene is developing nicely! Here's what the Bronco has at this point: Metal front bumper -3 Stinger -1 Functional scale accessories -4 Non-functional scale accessories -3 Winch -2 CMS -5 Interior -4 Cage -3 Driver -3 Full size spare -3 That's -31. I need to also do sliders, so that'll be a couple more. Might get a passenger too, or strap the big wrestler in. |
