Oh and I had a thought. When you make your cage hinge it in the back soy you can flip the while lid up to get to batteries and stuff.

Course I know some folks charge en right in the truck.

I got to spend one or two glorious hours in the garage this afternoon. It was cold outside, a little sunny, quiet in my house, and an absolutely perfect time to be in the garage. It was wonderful.

I started on the interior. My material of choice is some 1/4" plywood I had lying around. Normally, I don't like to use wood on a scale or regular size vehicle; it seems like plastics and metals are more appropriate (except for things like a wooden truck bed). However, I already had this 1/4" plywood, it is fairly strong, very light, and easy to deal with. Also, I plan to paint it so hopefully it won't be obvious that it's actually wood when I'm done.

After much careful measuring, I cut the following piece for the interior floor:

In thinking of how to mount it, I wanted to use mounts that resembled actual body mounts on a 1:1 size vehicle:

Attached to the mounts:

I also got to make the firewall before I had to call it quits for the day:

I feel like it went well, and I'm looking forward to getting back at it. I plan to do a wall at the rear of the interior and a dash. Then I'll need to come up with seats, and cover the tranny and flywheel.

Nice. I like that you are using wood. I never thought to use wood for an interior. I am sure that it will work out well and it is something that is very easy to work with. I am going to keep that in mind when I build.

That's pretty cool. Are you gonna make a dash or buy one?

I still think you should have flipped that tranny. More room for seats if it's flipped.

The plan is to make the dash. Not sure about the seats yet. Tin has a pair of RC seats I need to check out, or I might make some.

Today I made a piece for the dash, and a rear wall for the interior. I also bolted the pieces of the interior together. The erector set pieces will be painted the same color as the wood, in time.

I bought a couple cell phone holder seats from Tin. I love the size of them; they fit the truck good:

Looks good. Those seats seem to fit really well.. Are you gonna stick with those size tire/wheel combo or switch to a 1.9?

Thanks I intend to keep these wheels and tires. I wouldn't mind some more realistic looking wheels, like something RC4WD would make, but I wouldn't spend the money unless I found a good deal. This is my class 3 truck, so you can run tires up to 5.5" tall, I think. The concept for this rig is big, modified for the trail, not something you'd see on the street. The tires are going to rub a little, but I'll work it out.

Cool. I'm pretty new to scalers and crawlers so can't really think of the class 3 specs of the top of my head. Keep at it. Seems like you're making great progress.
