Hi! and sorry for bugging you guys with this question but I'm new to this RC thing and I've read a ton but I still lack the hands-on experience.

I just ordered a Wraith Kit and I'm ready to order some parts for it...
I just have a quick question for you, If I order a:

Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster 540
Holmes Hobbies BR-XL ESC (which says it has an internal BEC)
Hitec HS7955TG servo
Standard led light set up

Do I need and external BEC?
If in the future I decide to add more LEDs or a winch or any other servo or the like, will I need an external BEC?

Thanks a lot in advance, this forum and YT have given me great inspiration!

It's always an idea to run a external
Bec, the castle 10amp is amazing, and will drop esc temps, if you order from john. Have it set at 7.4v. Will bring a monster out of that sevo, also you have to remove the red wire from the esc pigtale, or get an extension, and cut the red out

rcmedic,

it's funny that you replied...I've been watching your videos all evening
Great channel, great inspiration...thank you!
Thanks for the advice man, I didn't know you could ask HH to make you custom stuff like that (not that I even understand what I'll be asking for)
The 7.4v you are talking about it's on the BRXL or the external BEC? again, I have no idea what I'm doing here...just going with the basics.
Thanks again!

He was meaning the castle BEC. It regulates the voltage from your battery down to a constant voltage that is safe for your receiver and servos. When you order one from Holmes Hobbies, you are given the option to have it set for a certain voltage, or with a castle link, you can set it yourself to.

BRSLs are discontinued in favor of the BR Minis that are starting production now. I'll start a new thread on the BR Mini soon, in the mean time we shall post details here.

Comes stock with Auto lipo LVC, Full drag brake, instant reverse, and 100% reverse throttle settings.

The TorqueMaster BR Mini is designed for competitive crawlers, scale rigs, and robots needing small electronics in an affordable package.

1 year warranty
2s to 6s lipo input
onboard 6v 1a linear BEC
28 x 28 x 6mm board
8 grams without wires
Brushed only
Stick and Castle Link programming compatible

Reverse and brake adjustment
Throttle and Brake curve adjustment
Regenerative Drag Brake
Active Hold Brake (The Holmes Hold!)
Quiet mode

These will probably retail at $75 with wire.

We are looking into the best way to offer it. We have some new potting compounds that could work well, but it will be difficult to offer it without wires AND with water protection. It will have to be a fully assembled version to be cost effective.

That makes sense, have to give a little to get something you really want / need. I know waterproof is important, particularly for the scale crowd.

Awesome looking ESC Rob! Those look sooo much easier to smash than a FXR or Micro Sidewinder!!!

I can see that! I don't know anything about what it takes to build an ESC, but why didn't you make the ESC have a 7.4v bec? I know most ppl use CC 10A BECs, but it would make a much cleaner setup if you could stick a powerful BEC into the esc.

A BEC inductor (for switching circuit) of any suitable power takes 4mm more height and adds a lot of real estate space. It also adds much heat to the system which limits the motor power. We already have the BRXL with the biggest inductor that easily fits.

The sort of folk that will use the BR Mini NEED an external BEC anyway. Separating the BECs pcb from the ESC allows for a more configurable package and shorter stack height. It also allows for better isolation of heat between systems, so an overheating ESC won't affect the BEC as much and vice-versa.

Will their be a "smashed" option available straight from HH?

EDIT: answered.. yes a dual esc setup fully wired..

Now, how soon will one be available? Can I get a dual setup to me before next Thurs!?.. just noticed some screwed up wires on my fxr.. no way to fix back to the board.. /
