I know that the BRSL's are being discontinued but could we see a side by side comparison between the BRSL and a BR Mini?

I assume the BR-SL is just a de-cased BR-XL? Since you're out of the SL's and the mini appears not to be available yet, can I just cut the case off a BR-XL and have a DIY BR-SL?

They have the wires motor wires removed, and heat sink taken off.

Thanks. Wires are no big deal...need them anyway. I thought the heat sink was the spike portion of the case. From your comment, is it more like a plate inside? If it doesn't take up much room, perhaps I can just discard the case and leave the heatsink on. I'm just trying to get it smaller so it can fit under the servo plate like my BR-SL does. I'd wait for a mini, but Holmes never answered my email on when they'd be available, so I guess I better not planning on getting one soon.

Got it. Since I've heard of people ruining their esc's trying to get the heatsink off, maybe I'll just remove the case and dremel off the spikes to get the thing down to size. Unless there's an easy trick to removing it.

I tried to search this topic but found no answer..

Just ordered BRXL wp and its going to my Wraith, with 4S and Traxxas titan 21T.

As i have Sanwa MT-4 so i can monitor temps with it, what would be suitable alarm level for esc temperature?

You're not even pushing that esc. It can handle more than you can!

Thanks for the pic! Thats a crazy little package you put together!

Last production estimate puts delivery of the BR minis last part of August. I'm pushing to get them a bit earlier for people wanting to run them at Nats.

SMASHED!!!

Spent some time tonight behind the iron and got this little package all wrapped up.

Here is a size comparison between two smashed Holmes Hobbies BRSL ESC's w/ CC BEC & the new Holmes Hobbies BR-Mini ESC's w/ CC BEC & Spektrum RX. The BR mini smash is significantly smaller than the BRSL smash.

And the ever important weight comparison...Keep in mind that the BR-mini smash also has a Spektrum RX in the mix!

BRSL Smash

BR-Mini Smash

Hopefully the wheels will be turning tomorrow...

I'm not sure this day can get any worse... lol.. Anyway, I was driving my custom axial based crawler today, and it suddenly stopped and smoke was billowing out... I figured motor at first, then saw so much smoke, got nervous about the lipo's but it wasn't that... It WAS the crappy Integy motor I was running, but for some reason... my beloved BRXL got fried too... :( I'm wondering how this could have happened... I don't even know what to do now... no crawling this weekend I guess.

Here is the motor that did it...

And here is the fried BRXL :(

Commutator may have broken and shorted the motor leads. I wonder if anyone has played with putting a fuse between the esc and motor or maybe in the battery circuit? Might help keep failures to one component. Or keep a rig from going up in flames from a shorted lipo.

John, I am waiting for the BR Mini's. When you are ready for a Pre Order or have some stock let me know. I will take 2 or 3.

Finally, i've got my hands on a non waterproof version of BR-XL. I've dissasambled it, tested it, and it's internal BEC works just fine (pulls any servo)! So i guess that i was just unluky with my first one.
