I noticed this about the tranny as well. While it seems stupid to cheap out on such a small inexpensive thing like that, in stock form it probably would have a very long life span. The stock motor was very slow so not much friction should build up. The people at exceed just didnt figure for people upgrading and modding like the people over at losi or axial did. Its to bad really. They should know that it will be modified by most people. Mine should be fine as it it still pretty slow and doesnt see much real use. I would change it out tho if i were to go faster or use it more often. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It isn't even a matter of "cheaping out", it's just a stupid design. It would not cost any more to do it right.

You could make a bracket that wraps around the axle

| Re: exceed rc maxstone 16 upgrades and tuning? That's kinda what i was planning just didn't know if i could bolt anything else to the axle housing since the axle shafts run through it. sorry for my terminology if its incorrect but i'm come from the 1/1 scale offroad scene trying to pick this up as a hobby with my 5 yr old since i haven't had much time to go out in my 96 ZJ. |

just got mine on Saturday. I played with it a bit. its a bit tipsy. Yesterday I took it apart and greased the axles and transmission. Still looking for a Land Rover body for it. I may attempt to build a brass chassis for it. |

Do you have any pics of the zj? I have a 97 i use strictly for wheelin. As for the bracket, make it clamp around the axle not through it. | |

So I got some more work done today....... I finally figured out battery placement.....but it's gonna interfere with the body a little. I also managed to break the rear upper 4link mount. I was messing around with shortening the droop of the rear shocks and testing it out in the flower bed when I broke it....... oh well one step forward, two steps back....... |

So....I took the redneck dream " black chevy" out for a test and tune at a local park with my scx. It preformed pretty well for the first time out. It is obviously hampered by the stock tires and lack of wheel speed. It would also benefit from some weight on the wheels. With that being said, I think I've found another option for tires. ..... Vaterra Slick Rock....... it has 1.9 swampers that supposedly measure 3.7"..........And are only 11.00 a pair I will order some on friday.....then report back |

So I went for another test run and took some video.........well actually my 13y/o son took some cell phone video...... It's not great but gives you an idea what I'm working with. Maxstone 16 Scaler test run - YouTube So the truck is set up with a droop suspension and no springs at all. Also the ground is sloped toward the camera and is part of the torque twist you see. My other problems are that the rear axle tends to "flex steer" the truck. I'm still trying to figure out the rear geomety on the 4 link. My COG is another issue. It could really be helped by weighting the wheels and maybe moving stuff around. Tires are ordered and motor/esc are in transit...... |

Well I received my new Tacon 3000kv motor and Hobbywing 18a ESC today. The motor is quite small compared to the brushed one. Of course I went immediately to installing it.... The only problem is that there is a built up lip around the shaft of the motor. It is too big for the relief in the motor plate sooooo...... I had to improvise. I went to Tractor Supply and found some rubber washers that fit around the lip snug while making a flush mounting surface. After the motor was in, with the stock 14t pinion, it was time to install the HobbyWing ESC. Interesting fact.....The HobbyWing 18a ESC comes with the exact same plug as the EMS16 battery. Of course I will be changing it to a traxxas connector as that is what i run in my other rc's. Also my turnigy program card works great in this unit also. So after a quick temp install I can honestly say that right now it feels perfect for the truck. Enough wheel speed to just spin the tires but not enough tourque to destroy any driveline. It made driving it in the yard 10x more fun. Now I will say after about 45 minutes one of my front knuckle scews slightly backed out and almost damaged the housing. I caught it and am now installing my aluminium c's and knuckles. I would not say the motor did this. I think it was my lack of proper inspection post build. I will get a short video up when I can and the part #'s that I ordered. |

How fast would you say it goes? I had a fast brushed set up in mine and it sounded like the axles were winding out to much so i slowed it back down.
