Glad to hear you are ok Pale...I gave up a pint or two in my past...I have a rare blood type so they always like to see me come by...I was a gallon doner in the navy. Doesn't sound like your's was a voluntary donation though...hope all is well buddy Yes, I usually like to paint outside...and it is raining this morning. I suppose, since the wife is in LA for the weekend, I could paint in the garage...I'll try something else first and see if I get the dreaded orange peel that usually comes with damp weather. As for the Comp build...today will determine if I have a plan that works for the tube frame...been struggling with that the last week or so. I have two sets of frames for the SCX10...one is the original kit (un-molested) and one is chopped up for a truggy/flatbed approach. My plan was to do a modular design so I could interchange them at my whim. I think I have a solution figured out as of last night. I have a batch of pics already done for a build...just want to see which direction it will take before I start one. If this doesn't work, I have a third option that I will do...but it's boring compared to the tube approach. I promise I will choose one of the three options today... Stay tuned.... |

Hey Greg, when you said you wanted a modular design with ease of interchangeability do you mean for a truggy body(such as a honcho with rear cage) and a flatbed style body (such as honcho with rear flat bed;no cage)? With regards to the tube frame, is this something you were brazing yourself? Hey Chris, glad the docs went okay. I see everyone has their different ways of painting, lol. I do my painting the city boy way, no garage or deck (don't have those)...Stand in front of open window with giant fan behind me. When i spray the body the fan blows excess out window. I also tend to place the body over empty garbage can and spray a couple of coats. The bags catch the excess and fan blows rest out the window. Oh and most important...DON'T DO IT WHILE THE WIFE IS HOME!!! |

Post, i just heard you maybe getting some crappy weather hope you dont get to wet out there , cool idea on the modular design. Lobo , yea doc's went ok ,I had a rookie and she decided to try a different vein, mildly painfull but ok , but this was my 10th pint this year. only one that had pain . I didnt mean anything by the "city" comment, I kind of figured painting for you would be tough , guessing apartment . I grew up in the sticks closest neighbor was 1/4 mile away and Im as close to city as i want to be now . I dont know how you guys do it . I dont think I could. |

Ok...ok Teaser pic Build thread forthcoming ...pretty happy with the outcome today Lobo...my paint booth resembled your hands ... It's really hard to paint when it's poring outside...we are getting a lot o water Modular design... Two screws undo this Flatbed will have a different rail I think...no chopped frame...maybe not as modular as I had hoped...maybe I can figure out something else... |

Wow, you guys got it bad Dee calls me and says"you got presents" when boxes come . She painted the chassis of my 1:1 willys when I restored that , with her left hand , she had just had surgery on her right . I get to paint in the garage or deck and in the winter I sneak them in to work. just wish I could get the 1/4 scale 55 chevy in the shop , be nice to spend a day on that one just to get some of the body work done. Post nice work on that rear section. looks good . I am looking forward to the build. |

Hey post...now im seeing your vision...I like the truggy rear, nice work on it...spare tire carrier? A change in the rear shock setup might offer the solution you seek for an easily swappable modular design. Get a set of shorter shocks & get rid of the rear shock hoops. The top of the shocks should now be relocated to the rear chassis brace that separates the chassis rails. You are familiar with this setup from the TF2. Go for this look. Gear Head RC SCX10 Rear Shock Relocation Kit The relocation kit is good but it places the top of the shocks over the rail. The idea is to have them just a little bit under so when you place a flatbed it can be leveled with the chassis and easily attached with 2 properly placed screws. That is why you need to mount the shocks to the brace. You can attach the shock mount from the relocation kit under the brace if you really want to use that piece. The down side to that is you will need even shorter shocks. Unfortunately you already have the shock mounts welded into your truggy rear. If easily removable, you might use that space for a spare tire. Hey pale, i hear you on that spending a day on the Chevy build. I've done that myself...taking a day off just to be by myself and work on a rig...its a sort of mental health thing. Last edited by Lobonyc; 12-03-2012 at 04:46 AM. | |
