They come in 6", 12", 24" and 36" and can be cut to any size needed and all 3 can be had for around $110.00.

So I've been playing around off and on for a few days now and noticed that they Y axis moves considerably easier than the X axis.

No, the gib locks aren't on.

Is this a normal thing? I would assume that it would be to a point considering its length. Both are lubed up pretty good, think it might be a bit stiff from sitting?

There should be gib adjustments, usually they are set screws with locknuts. It should have 1 gib lock but I would guess at least 4 adjusters..
Grab your table and watch your DRO's, you may get .001" maybe from movement.
On mine they are on the back side under the carriage.

Hey Duuuuuuuude. I would like to see how can you mount the DRO displays. I'm a machinist myself, but didn't get a good picture on how the screen could be mounted.
Could you tell us or post a pic if you already mounted them.

Thanks

The displays have magnetic mounts on the back of them so they can be attached to the machine anywhere there is a flat metal surface.

Right now they're just stuck to the side. I've got a swivel mount in mind, just have to make one.

And there is just one wire between the display and dro unit?
I've been looking for those DRO units, but all I could ever find was industrial and pretty expensive.
Thanks for this info.

Yup, just one 4' wire. It can unplug from the display...never looked to see if maybe it was a mini usb or something that you could find an extension for...

If the tool your referring to is an "Edge Finder" I usually run them at 800-1000 RPM

Hooray! I finally got to do something fun instead of stuff I had to do.

A mathmatical error put a couple of the holes in the wrong spot, but they aren't off by much.

Next to the one I cut a month or so ago on the drill press.

Look at ya go, "Eyeball Enginering" , I wear out my calculator while I'm making stuff, this is definately where "measure twice , cut once" comes into play .

we usually run edge finders at 1200 rpm at work, also if it is a .200 edge finder don't forget to compensate by adding .100 or you will be off that much, I check alot of guys setups at work and every once in awhile they will forget to add the edge finder and they will be off .100. Same goes for a .500 edge finder you have to add .250.

Where I used to work as maintenance supervisor, we had a 14" X 84" Hass lathe along with a Clausin that was a little larger and they were both fine machines.

Agreed. HAAS equipment in my opinion, is some qaulity machinery. I mainly deal with Okuma now but, started off many years back using HAAS CNC machines.
