In my case on the second radio, it actually delaminated rather than just leaving a bunch of sticky glue. The first one went well, I got cocky and wasn't as careful with the second radio.

Ooh! The film is attainable, I found a cheap source once. I will try to dig up the link.
Most places, for the size we need, it costs more than the radio
I was amazed how stable the film was. I was scraping with a plastic chisel and goof off for like an hour Amazingly enough, no damage.

Edit: I did fold the film at one point while bashing on it. That left a small crease that is just barely visible when the power is off.

New wheel arrived today, Many thanks.

Small issue with it as some of the screws supplied are too small a diameter.

Less of an issue for me as I intend to use some different ones anyway.

Pete.

Yea the screws are not really ideal, gotta be real finese to get a good snug fit. I'm working on getting some new ones...

On another note (since i'm thinking about right now), does anyone want to pre-order a gt3c, as i have to get my order in any day now when i get word of final price and availability. I don't know if its hackable or not at this time

Losikid! Just ordered one of your radios. 6 channnel version.

Very exited. I love hacked RC stuff, I have a Turnigy9X that I flashed with an AVR. This sounds equally as exiting.

Quick question for you: Is it possible to install a pot on one of the channels so I can pan a camera mounted on a servo inside my truck for FPV use?

Cheers,

Depending on the price, I'll try a GT3C.

Cheers,

I think you would be better off saving your third channel for dig or rear steer and just using a Y cable from servo for panning. You are going to want to look where you are turning anyway, and you can pretty much always turn the wheels. This feels natural and looks cool as hell for scale still.
Thats how I'm gonna run my FPWraith.

You peel it off. Its a PIA to get off (just really slow)
Dont worry too much about the sticky residue. I spent about an hour with goof off then realized you dont see it anyway.

turn the radio on and hold the film over the lcd. You can flip it over and see the difference. It's pretty incredible. Looks like the Futaba 10C once flipped.
Then you can either just set it on top of the LCD and put the case back on, or, if you are worried about it sliding, just use some clear Scotch tape to hold it down.

I just figured you had already been in there for the firmware mod.

sent you a pm with these directions.

there are four screws on top face. Pull them.
Pry off the round dial and use a quarter or plastic chisel to pop the top off.

use a small sharp blade to lift the thin layer of film (sticker) from the lcd face. start at a corner.
Try not to crease it too much as you peel it off.
Once you get it off turn your radio on and hold it over the screen. Then flip the film over. You will see it magically reverse the colors. Its pretty cool.
Just lay it back over the screen the way you like it best (opposite of stock is easier to see in the daytime) and refit the top. If it slides around you can tape it down. or fit it to the bottom of the case's top plastic protector window. Whatever is easier.

Its easier than it sounds and totally worth it.
do the button mod while you are in there.
Pull the power button off the switch and shave about 1/4" off the inside edge. Then remake the notch in one corner like I described a page back and push it back on.
replacement is reversal of removal.

If I have 6 channels, I can keep 3 for dig but if I stop and want to look around, left or right, it would be nice to have a pot to swing the camera left or right. If it's not possible, I guess I can use a 3 position switch but I would prefer a pot if it`s doable.

Six channels, but limited by available buttons.
If you want to retain trim buttons and d/r switches like most, than you still have a three channel radio : )
You can absolutely add a pot and the radio will understand it w/o any firmware updates. But...before you do that you may want to try it first.

Im pretty knowledgeable when it comes to FPV and have built many set ups for others in the past. If there is one thing I can tell you its that everybody has a different idea about how they Think they want theirs set up. Usually we all end up with pretty much the same systems in the end. The reason for this is that until you try it, many "issues" that once seemed important fall wayside to issues that actually are. For example you may think you need a 3dbi whip on the TX, but, in actuality, the stock dipole works far better on ground based systems.
Another example is switch or dial activated panning.
Most think they want this until they actually try to point the car straight and then try to pan with a switch or pot activated servo. It is very easy to get disoriented. And finding center is not always as easy as you think when using a pistol radio w/only one free hand to control with.

I would say a better hack would be to find a way to pipe in a head tracker for a fourth channel!
now the camera looks where you do.

Im looking into the 4pk for this very reason. Because I think it offers a trainer port that would allow a head track gyro injection )

Wrong,

The stock radio is 100% worthless on anything past channel 2

The new firmware let an a/d port act as either a button or analog channel. If you wanted a pot you could get one pot in there by replacing the channel 3 button

Yes on the ch 3 button of course.

I see the flaw in my answer. Should have said "No further f/w udate required.

Losikid, Bekadog, thanks for your input.
I will definitely go for the pot on CH3 and give it a go.
I am wondering what kind of Pot I should get?
What K Ohm? I imagine 10K would work?

Ill let Losikid field that one my man. He is the hands down master of this radio.
I only answered up till this point because I have made the backlight mod personally and have seen the dial hack done.
