Right now, with backlight off, the current drain is ~110ma with the new VR its going to be ~60ma

Right now with backlight on, the current drain is ~130ma and the new VR will be ~75ma

Testing was done at 11.4V,

pricing will be $10-15 and will require 3 solder joints...if anyone would like to pre-order lmk.

Im sure with it being a "high efficiency" regulator as long as you are under the 12 volts you will be fine. Most have used a 2s and set your voltage alarm lower. I dont think anyone makes a 3s that will fit in the controller. But 2s is enough.


what you do is buy 2 2s cheap zippy packs and call it a day.

It can be over 12 volts...problem with a 2s is the low power alarm min is 7.5 volts and the vr requires 6.5 volts to output 5v's.

I'm not sure how people are fitting 3s packs, but they are.

Hmmm ill have to check around and figure that out. Maybe 2s and a 1s in series? Or maybe splitting case on 3s and un folding it flat? Hell i donno LMAO

No, its been real slow lately, so i've just been getting wantamix orders caught up, 5 more and then i'm caught up. Haven't been since i've started them.

But yea once i have em i'll write up instructions, much like the fw hack kit instructions.

How to replace the hot-running voltage regulator:

Take apart the top of the transmitter, turn around the board, and locate the 78M05 voltage regulator. Snip off the pins close to the regulator using sidecutters.



Carefully bend the legs of the dc/dc converter down a bit. Add a bit of solder to the legs as well as the pins you cut to get a good connection quicker and easier. Stick it in position with a bit of double sided tape (just needed to prevent it from slipping off). Make sure the orientation is right, writing up, the dot marks the input voltage pin (If you use a different brand, check the pinout first!).
Then just solder the pins together. Check that you don't have any accidental connections to the pins next to each other. That's all there is to it.



Don't mind the brown wire on the bottom pin, it's for a power LED and not needed for the replacement.

Then just busing them together like old NiMh packs and shrink wrapping? Know anyone whos used them for anything?? I mean 2800 and 2400 mah is already over the packs I found.

Hell since they come in sets you could just buy six. Make 2 3cell packs and toss em both in there and swap out plugs when one dies

I was thinking buy 100+ and sell em in sets of 3 ...already soldered together, and be plug and play.

But yes they'd be connected like nihm packs, i'm looking for a 18650 holder though as it may be easier...but i've seen one that holds two, and one that holds 4 No 3

I don't think the batt box can hold 6, maybe shove them up in the handle

I looked at the pics and gauged it.. looks like you could fit six side by side the opposite way the batteries are now

I don't think 6 will fit...if i remember right their 17mm in dia.

I forgot to mention, the vr's will come with some doubled sided tape (3/8" adhesive dots) so you can stick the vr on so its easier to solder

Well if they are 17mm dia that would be 102mm..... its 110mm across.
